I hope that with the opening of the health care exchanges this fall, that you will be able to get health insurance to take care of the surgery.

Ive got Native blood also,I have a smaller chin and a top jaw that sticks out further, all my life I have had sleeping problems. If I pull down the corner of my eyes,I can see the eye fold that Natives and Asians have.
I never thought about that causing sleep problems. But it does seem like I have trouble finding a comfortable position for my teeth when I go to sleep,I know, that sounds weird.

You should look into it - sleep apnea is dangerous for our health. I had 3 sleep studies before it was found because the first 2 doctors didn't even check for sleep apnea since I'm thin. There are several types of sleep apnea, even one that is caused by your brain, so it's not always related to being overweight. The third doctor I went to checked my study for every possible cause of sleep deprivation and we found the source. I was miserable for many years - and was told that I needed a shrink by one doc!

If your jaws are not aligned properly, then your teeth are also misaligned. I can feel where my bottom molars slope down where the top ones hit them. I get jaw pain because of it, too.

If you want a sleep study, you should see a pulmonologist. In the meantime, I'd suggest this to your primary care doc on your next visit (if you have one). Maybe do some online research and see if you relate to other peoples' experiences. Do you wake up with a sore throat often? With headaches? These are questions you need to ask yourself.

I hope this helps you. No one should have to go through sleep deprivation. It's hell.

I was thinking the attractiveness scale of 1-10, but you say, "7. People confuse me for Lucy Liu or Lady Gaga."

Lada Gaga is only considered a seven??? Maybe with the flu and no makeup... :skull:

I voted six because I need to lose the extra pudge before I might be considered "hot" again. ;)

I've gotta admit. As an aspie I have low self esteem related to my looks. I'm not suggesting that your looks can hold you back in life, but for those of us with these kinds of issues, it can be detrimental to our health. In this society we. are often obsessed with looks. Billions of dollars are spent every year by men and women trying to improve it through cosmetics, surgery, etc. In the end beauty is only skin deep. So, how beautiful are you??

Disclaimer: This poll is for fun. None of the celebrities mentioned were meant to be portrayed in a negative light even if it does seem that way!

So, when my head is freshly shaved, I look like a low-rent Ming the Merciless...

PS

I've taken too many psychology/sociology/social work classes to let that part in bold pass.

It's a pleasant fiction.

The truth is, tall, thin, symmetrical people are considered more intelligent, more competent, more (insert positive characteristic here), than short, chubby, asymmetrical people...

Tall, attractive, beautiful people earn more over a lifetime and are generally happier and healthier than less attractive folks--this is especially true for females.

Lookism, discrimination against ugly people, is one of the last socially acceptable forms of discrimination.

Gatekeepers get away with lookism because most people are not willing to self-identify as ugly...
This is why you'll never see a group called the NAAUF--The National Association for the Advancement of Ugly Folks.

It's too bad. There are a lot more of us ugly folks than there are beautiful people. If only we could shake off the self-deception, we could rise up and overthrow our pretty oppressors!! !!

There is a doc called "The Blond Mystique" that was pretty good, these girls exchanged hair colors and guess what? The blonde girl got help first when she pretended to have car trouble, but then the guys asked stupid question, like"Are you sure you put gas in it?".With the brunette, when they asked her questions, they used more technical terms, such as"You may have a broke timing belt, fuel pump etc.."The brunette was taken more seriously at job interviews, and the blond got hit on the in the bar more often.

Is beauty not indeed in the eye of the beholder?
If you were the only beautiful person in a world full of ugly, I expect you would consider yourself to be the ugliest of all as you would look nothing like the norm.

I myself am Baltic but have always lived amongst the Germanic English people, even before I learnt of my heritage, I considered myself weird looking because I didn't look like my peers, I felt I was different and wrong looking.

I now consider the Baltic peoples to be the most beautiful of all, when I look back at pictures of my younger self and realise I wasn't ugly, I was the most beautiful, what a waste.

I'm very beautiful. I look like big, strong and beautiful young Mick Avory of The Kinks and to me, that's beautiful. I don't give in to the feminine ideal of the thin body or blonde hair.

Whatever. I think I know how I look in person without a cheap webcam.

I am learning to be thankful, on multiple axes [there needs to be a different spelling for this plural form, wood choppers have nothing to do with it!] for my appearance.

For years and years I tried hard to make myself look like someone specific, a specific movie star, character or singer, etc. Often, I actually ended up succeeding but looking back now, I'm sort of embarrassed by it. I guess that has to do with imitation to try to fit in and be accepted and loved the way those people/characters were.

These days I've finally given all that up, and I'm happy just to look like myself. I don't think I'm a supermodel, but some people have said I look like a model. It's all subjective, I think. I actually like doing make up now like an art, it has been one of my special interests for a really long time but I just do it these days to express myself, not to cover anything up or hide.
