Do you hate guns?

Where i come from we all love guns, own guns, and the smart ones respect the guns. Shooting guns, target practice... ah what a fun pasttime.
Target shooting is good hand eye coordination, i can shoot lefty or right handed with a rifle and a magnum
2 nd amendment gives us the right to bear arms for protection at the home or in case of apocalypse zombies

I love guns. they are actually one of my obsessions. Specifically, the older military rifles are my favorites. Something about a genuine wood stock, the surprising simplicity and functionality of their designs. They are like pieces of historical furniture. I love restoring them. I especially love the smells associated with firearms - smoke, oils, cleaners... there's nothing about older military rifles that I don't like, aside from the cost of purchasing them. The newer ones are alright, but given my choice, I would pick a world war 2 rifle over a modern synthetic stock rifle any day.

and as for gun control/bans and all that other noise, let's take a look at how the bans on things like heroin, meth, and cannabis are doing - the only ones affected by such laws are the ones that obey the laws in the first place.

here's a story you haven't likely heard about gun violence: On December 17, 2012, a man in San Antonio, Texas pulled out a gun and started firing at people inside the Chinese restaurant he worked at. The employees fled the scene and ran off into a theater. The gunman followed them inside and continued shooting at people.

why wasn't this story all over the place? Especially when it was only 3 days after the sandy hook shooting? because an off duty sheriff's officer was also at the theater, and the theater was NOT a gun free zone. She shot the gunman before he could injure more than one person in his rampage.

This story would have totally defeated the media agenda of forcing anti-gun propaganda down our throats if it had been publicized in the same way as the other shootings where nobody but the bad guy had a gun. After all, it turns out in this story that a gun saved the day. And that's not something that evil guns do.

i wish more research was done in making viable air-powered [or other] weapons that didn't necessarily have to be lethal, just powerful enough to stop a perp in their tracks.

Generally, something that can stop someone usually carries enough force to inflict a potentially lethal wound. Though it's good to try and get it as close to that border of sufficient energy to stop without killing in most cases, thingy, especially with events where lethal force can be avoided. Electrical guns seem to work well in lots of cases nowadays, so that's good.

But, people who want to kill others will just resort to the best means available for that task. What's that Heinlein quote? Something like, "invention is to make a task easier", which is often right. Killing people is often the best way to stop them (as sad as that is).

in the novel "brave new world" people's misbehavior was stopped by spraying a nice friendly "soma" gas which would just make the lawbreaker/s chill out. why can't we invent something like that?

I can see myself getting addicted to something like that.

Guns, by the way, freak me out fiercely, but I don't hate them. I actually would like to buy a glock.

this would be totally evil and counterproductive, but i'd be the first in line to buy [assuming affordability] a deadly gun that had no recoil and was silent. i inherited my late father's .38PS and it makes a deafening POP! that makes me flinch without hearing protection, but i know that if i had to use it on some unfortunate in a clinch, i'd flinch - and that might well affect my accuracy. i know i'm a wuss

Not withstanding the fact that the "true" AK-47 hasn't been in production for a long time, I have great difficulty in branding one firearm more/less "evil" than another. Perhaps that's because it's the wielder who is capable of evil/good, not an inanimate object. Terrorists use much more than firearm to scare citizens. My MAK90 and (Soviet-era) AK-47 haven't done any terrorizing recently (save for that rabid raccoon last summer).

I like guns when i see them on tv shows or when i look up images of them, i however don't feel comfortable near an actual gun and i dislike the acts they're used for, as in murder etc :o I'm mostly interested in the shape and design and things like that when it comes to guns, not actually using them.

Not at all, in fact collecting old guns is one of my special interest. I especially enjoy guns from the time period of the English empire like the Enfield, Webley and Martini Henry. I would love to get a Brown Bess and a Baker rifle.

I've never even seen a real gun. But just the idea of what it does puts me off. I'm glad that I live in a country where guns are not commonly owned.

my older brother [while in the army] got to fire a tommygun once, he told me it weighed a ton and was thunderously deafeningly noisy. but it had a very mild recoil which was useful in sweeping the gun. i wouldn't mind trying one. while wearing hearing protection. i value my hearing acuity.

I don't really have an opinion on guns, specifically. They can be useful. However, misusing a gun by shooting someone is terrible. When I think of all the murders in the world caused by guns, I feel sick. I don't think people should be allowed them unless they prove somehow they won't be using it to murder innocent people.
If it's a life or death situation, that's different.
