Keying cars
I thought Asperger's was about lacking empathy and not following social rules. It would seem that the subject of this thread fits both of these. At least I have never keyed poor people's cars, so I do have some empathy.
You did not fail to follow a social rule. You broke a law. These are two totally different things. Aspies often break social rules, not because they wish to blatantly disregard them, but because they do not recognize they are doing it. You clearly know that keying people's cars is wrong, yet you chose to do it anyway. Also, i think to say aspies lack empathy is truly way too simplistic of an explanation. Most aspies i know (and granted i don't know all aspies) fail to recognize when empathy is warranted, either because they did not pick up on subtle nonverbal cues or social conventions, or because of issues with theory of mind...they cannot see things from the other person's perspective. That is different than simply not giving a crap about other people.
i think that what people are "rising up against" is yet one more person blaming their behavior on being an Aspie. This reflects poorly on the vast majority of Aspies who would never intentionally harm someone, who would quickly make amends if they came to realize they did, and who are law abiding citizens who do not engage in sociopathic behavior.
Tryion, i am not attempting to attack you here. I understand that you are just trying to figure things out for yourself. But part of me suspects that you knew the kind of responses you would get (both the ones who are disgusted by what you did, and the ones where people stuck up for you) when you started this thread to begin with. I think you knew it would happen and you were OK with it. Perhaps it helps you process things. That is possible. It is also possible that it is driven by something else. Only you really know the answer to that.
Or maybe you don't, and that is one of the things you need to figure out.

He's been called:
stupid and self indulgent
jerk (twice)
a nasty, nasty person
douchebag
twat
...all on top of people explaining why his actions are inadvisable and reminding him he is a criminal and the behaviour is anti-social and destructive. Those things alone were enough without the insults flying.
Like many of us, he has self-esteem issues, name-calling just drags people down further.
The guy broke the rules, in the most absurd of the ways.
Dude truly does deserve stigmatization from WP community.
This is crossing a line, a real line, not just some emotional thing.
By simply rationizing it out to emotional dysfunction is an extreme moral hazard for this site.
He did something wrong, we are all in agreement. But reducing things to name-calling and spite, is also wrong, is immature and unnecessary. As for stigmatisation, that's ridiculous. What has happened to WP welcoming all? Welcoming and being inclusive does not equal agreeing with something wrong that has been done.

Sexual assault is worse than vandalism so vandalism is okay? That is one of the more ridiculous arguments that I've ever seen. By the same logic, since murder is worse than sexual assault, you would be justified in committing sexual assaults.

This thread is pissing me off, blaming destruction on autism now?
*leaves thread in rage and is through with it*
Really though the fact that anyone is supporting him in this by some absurd justification that he is autistic is puzzling.
Who has blamed his actions on autism or any other condition, other than himself?
I have defended him against name-calling, but I did not defend his actions nor attribute it to any condition.
At 82 years old you'd have thought extensive learning in life would have taught you some wisdom and maturity, other than suggesting someone should be stigmatised and defending puerile name-calling.

He's not 82. If I remember correctly, he's in his 20's. And, frankly, I have seen people gang up on Stoek before, only no one comes to his rescue.
I do agree with sticking up for people. It is my natural tendency. But sometimes people bait their own hook and sit back and watch it play out. I do not know if this is what happened here.

I've done this at my apartment complex (at night of course) when I come back from a long, rough day and can't find a parking spot because there are multiple cars without parking permits parked in all crazy directions. And there's nothing like a parking lot full of cars parked every which way to piss me off in the extreme. So I've gone through and keyed all the cars without parking permits.
Do sensory overload and frustration ever cause you to do sociopathic things like this?
If you don't believe in private property rights, why are you upset by people without permits parking in your lot?
Exactly. If everyone respected property rights, the issue would never have arisen at all.

I was goading him, I didn't believe for one moment he really was 82. You can tell by his writing style he's a young guy.
But I've seen the nature of some of his posts. He is quick to be sarcastic and ridicule, (including to me) so I don't believe in sticking up for people with that attitude. As I said in my earlier post on this thread, I believe in justice and fairness.

See, I tend to believe that people provoke other people for a wide variety of reasons. Tryion's reasons and Stoek's reasons might be different on the surface, but i am not so sure they are that different when you get right down to the nitty-gritty. I actually feel that either they both deserve someone to stick up for them, or neither of them do.
Though we are all entitled to our own opinions, and mine is no more valid than yours.

For all ye who believe that my occasional bad behavior gives all auties a bad name, fear not. This thread could be a way out:

I honestly don't know why I posted this thread. I guess I'm trying to sort out whether I was misdiagnosed or if I have another personality disorder or whether I'm just subconsciously "rejecting" my diagnosis, leading to worse mood swings and bizarre behavior. I'm definitely frustrated that the therapy/CBT I tried to do based on Asperger's was supremely unhelpful (after the first two weeks or so -- it was just interesting more than helpful) and not relevant to my needs. I guess I was too "well-behaved" there.
I found out I can see a free vocational rehabilitation counselor in Austin who can direct me to someone who can reevaluate me for a misdiagnosis/additional diagnosis covered by my insurance (that's been the hassle with finding appropriate therapists -- most of the ones for ASD are out-of-network).

i don't understand why some people here are quick to jump down your throat. I don't think being autistic excludes you from being capable of indulging this sort of behaviour. I used to wreck stuff in public pre-dx a long time ago. It was always exclusively during being under the influence though. Were you drunk or high when you keyed the cars? Or in meltdown mode?
I read the thread about the receptionist. He stated that all he said to her was "good morning." I believe in innocent until proven guilty. I agree with you here.
With respect to society, I have to ask what is society. It is a collection of individuals interacting with each other and their social institutions. It is a collection of individuals who share common beliefs. I do not agree that nothing is wrong with society because some beliefs can be based upon erroneous information. I do not agree with certain tenets our society has and I see them as flawed.

My perception of Tyri0n, is a person who is searching for answers, he is confused and probably pretty opinionated. I have not seen him try to belittle anyone (although if he has please link to where). He is analytical, clearly wants to improve himself, and I haven't noticed unhelpful posts from him.
My perception of Stoek, is a person who is quick to jump in to be sarcastic and attempt to belittle someone (things which go against WP community rules) and I have not seen anything that stands out about him being a helpful community member (again, I would be happy to see links to places he has been). For instance, a little while ago I posted a thread, which just contained a link to a journalistic article about a UK councillor making terrible remarks about autistic children. I posted it for general information/awareness, without any comment of my own. He posted on my thread accusing me of deliberately posting something designed to stir up emotion, implying I was some sort of troublemaker. It made me notice his username more on threads and I saw he has a tendency to sarcasm.

I know which person I feel deserves defending more.

Nope, it doesnt help when causing damage to other peoples property esspecially when they had nothing to do with what ruined your day. It just makes more people mad and ruins their day and them having to pay like 400 bucks at the body shop to get it fixed.

We had cars in the shop where every last panel

An entire paint job for the prise of the deductable.
Same thing with windsheilds too.
If I claimed for paintwork damage I would lose my no claims discount (dramatically raising the cost of insurance). Claiming for broken glass does not affect the no claims discount.
