They is cute, I like the yellow markings around the eyes, that they pair for life and that they can mimic human vocalizations, very cool, we don't have them here but we do have lots of Starlings.

Sefton was a very depressing place to live. Not a Myna Bird in sight, but HERE, they're EVERYWHERE!! !

No wonder I was too depressed to do anything.

Hi Kraftie,

Sorry. Just saw this. No actually. I can't recall seeing any in the city. I think they stick mostly to the suburbs.

So far, the only type of bird I've seen show an interest in my breeding box is pigeons and they're to big to fit in the hole.

:(

My reply to Jackie Fowler - the Volunteer Coordinator with the Indian Myna Project who discusses and demonstrates the use of traps to catching Indian Myna birds in her video. I won't post it. It's too disturbing and so disgusting, I wouldn't want it on my Myna Bird thread!

'I've got a better idea. How 'bout you just leave the poor little buggers alone! After all, it's man's fault there here in the first place. We brought them out here trying to use them for our own purposes. Just like the Americans introduced the Africans to America - to use them as slaves. But you don't see Americans running around trying to trap and kill Negros. Oh, wait a minute.

They were first released in 1862 in the Melbourne market gardens to try and control the insects. That didn't work but that didn't stop stupid people from then releasing them in Sydney and a while later in North Queensland. If you ask me, it looks like we were trying our darndest to introduce them. It looks like we were asking for it.

We made our bed. Now it's time to lie in it. It's not their fault. It's ours. They're just doing what Myna birds do.

Besides, they don't attack people like noisy miners do. Why don't people want to get rid of them?

Common/Indian Mynas are monogamous. They're communal birds. They're smart. They're beautiful. They can talk. They make the most amazing variety of sounds. They're Acridotheres Tristis (roughly translated, 'the sad grasshopper hunter') and they make fantastic pets.

Please just leave them alone.'

This morning, I cut a larger hole in my breading box because last breading season, I didn't get any Myna Birds.

I thought the hole was too small. Hopefully this season, I'll do better and I'll have a little baby to rear, look after and care for.

I'll just have to make sure the Myna and Boo never meet. Otherwise, Boo will eat him/her. :(

Sad, having an interest in cats and birds. What a horrible combination.
