Location of the United Kingdom's overseas territories, of which there are fourteen. The sovereign base area of Atrokiri and Dhekelia in Cyprus isn't listed on this map.

The official list is:

  • Anguilla
  • Bermuda
  • British Antarctic Territory
  • British Indian Ocean Territory (really, this is little more than a US naval base. How Britain treated the islanders was and is an utter disgrace to the United Kingdom)
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Cayman Islands
  • Falkland Islands (also claimed by Argentina. They even went to war in 1982 to get it but we luckily managed to kick them out for the benefit of the islanders)
  • Gibraltar (I've been here - a strange (and very small) medium sized town on the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula. All the locals speak their own version of Spanish yet call them that and they will go absolutely mental towards you. Their loyalty to the Union Jack and the Queen is well-noted.)
  • Montserrat
  • Saint Helena and its dependencies of Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (this is really connected with the Falklands)
  • Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia (I have a strange feeling we passed through this area during a visit to Cyprus when I was small, but I can't be sure. Anyway, it's a military base.)
  • Turks and Caicos Islands

My latest broody hen (means she's sitting on a clutch of eggs, leaves them once a day to eat and poop). This is a picture of her from yesterday, when she chased the other 13 chickens and rooster away (!) because she was so hungry. You can tell she's broody because her feathers are fluffed out. They fluff their feathers to raise their body temperature to keep the eggs warm, and also to intimidate the other chickens. I search for her nest daily but haven't found it yet.
