These kinds of people thrive on contention. And I hope the mods make good on saying they're going to be cracking down on these multiple rerun threads. They're not looking for advice in umpteen threads spread throughout several sub-forums, they're looking for a wide audience to get into scraps with. To as one mod so aptly put it, scream and shake their fist at the WP user base.

Yep...no doubt...you have your obvious trolls, too.

The best thing to do: a permanent "ignore." They'll usually go away.

I don't always take my own advice, though.

It's hard to tell with some of these if they are doing it intentionally or not, but the troll effect is the same. They put out many hooks to snag as many takers as possible. Over and over again. Some have been at it for years and have it down to fine science.

Like telemarketers, eh?

;)

Now we have one telling us we need to meet his conditions in order to qualify to help him. Unbelievable. Someone needs to just drop the ban hammer already.

Wonderful.

Have you hit the 'Report' button on him yet?

No need I suppose since there's a mod in the thread, while he's telling us how stupid we are. Like I said he gots it down to a fine science.

Practice, practice, practice ... when you've been playing the same "Pity-Party" game for several years, you learn all the most effective ways to encourage enablers -- even the finest of moderators -- to be on your side.

The thing is though enabling goes both ways. If someone triggers a response from me, I'll happily give it to them.

Makes sense. Then again, the "happily" part should go both ways, as well.

Isn't it sometimes better to tell someone what they don't want to hear, but you feel they should be told, instead of placating them?

If you mean playing the role of a "Dutch Uncle" instead of a "Pollyanna", then yeah!

I'm grateful that our mods are more like Dutch Aunts and Dutch Uncles than either tyrants or pushovers.

I am going to come right out and admit here that I read the first page I’d this thread and then jumped to the end.

I agree with Fnord, however I think it’s often funny to watch these sad cases.

We like “Forged in Fire” here at my house. It’s a competition blacksmith show. Often, the people who get cut from the competition will tell the camera on their way out that it’s the fault of this person or that for not getting their vision, or some equipment. Sometimes, but not nearly enough, the competitor will tell the truth-they simply didn’t do well enough, or the other people did a better job. You would think it would be easy to admit failure with such a hard competition, but many people just can’t admit that they aren’t good at something.

It's my fault for being a workaholic and not seeing the signs that my ex was cheating on me. It's my fault for siding with the union when the strike was called. It's my fault for not having a secret emergency fund set up for just such an emergency. It's my fault for believing that I would be treated fairly in divorce court. It's my fault for hiring a part-time lawyer. It's my fault for expecting my parents and other relatives to lend a helping hand to get me back on my feet.

It's also to my credit for finally waking up to the mess that I had put myself in, and applying my 'workaholic' ways to getting myself back out of it.
