How can that be the case when by your own admission, she's emotionally abusive?

My mom is only human. I love her despite her flaws. And at least she did not abandon me like my real father or the rest of my entire family did.

Of course that doesn't speak for all of them, but you can't anyway.
Thats like people saying all autistics are like Rain Man.

I couldn't agree more, at least pertaining to the young men and women in my life (I know many, including my nephew's bandmates and streams of 22-25 year-olds who visit my house for practice). They are decent, caring, peaceful, respectful, hardworking, well-educated, resilient and socially-conscious individuals who donate to charity and do volunteer work on days free. One is working on a Doctorate of Philosophy in Ethics, and others study Biomechanics to build prostheses for amputees. Of course this doesn't speak for the group as Raleigh says, but I'm impressed with those I've met.

I work in a college library. My only problem was with a person about Generation X age.

The kids can be noisy.....but they are almost always quite polite.

As for the new generation of tennis players, nobody has come up yet who can really give Federer, Nadal or Djokovic any real challenge. The only players to really give these men anything to think about are close to their own age group-Istomin, Wawrinka and the now retired David Ferrer-all of whom are also in their 30s. Only Zverev (German of Russian descent) and Tsitsipas (Greek father, Russian mother) are decent players among the younger group and their results have been inconsistent at best.

I think they're Sweet Peas. They care about people who are different from themselves, because there's a lot of diversity these days.

Outside of work or college 18-25 yr olds have no time to talk because they are too busy staring at their phones.....and stare at pictures of themselves and other people looking at pictures of themselves...so yes they are little more narcissistic than the previous cohort

Back in the 1990s prior to the mobile phone era and internet this age group was what I would call the "whatever" generation into grunge, bohemian lifestyles, nose rings and did the usual stuff 18-25 yr olds do to piss off older people....

otherwise business as usual...

Self-centeredness and Narcissism are two COMPLETELY different things! Many young people are self centered, and you can be self centered and still have empathy.

Narcissists have NO empathy. Just like sociopaths and psychopaths.

Currently in my late 20s with a 17-year-old brother.

Pros: +1 on being more socially & culturally aware; technologically proficient at a young age; more open-minded on previously taboo issues [eg: LGBQ; mental health; interracial dating]

Cons: Very short attention span; Memes non-stop; Their version of fun= Discord, Steam, Snapchat or Youtube 24/7.

How Would You Describe This Generation Of18 To 25 Year Olds?

Young. Sadly many have been brainwashed through what today is called "Education" but has changed into using brainwashing techniques designed to ensure future generations are all the same so they can be easily manuipulated and controlled.
Sadly most in the younger generations do not see this and put their energy into following political propoganda methods... Todays political climate in the UK and elsewhere is almost a carbon copy of what it was like in Germany prior to Hitler taking charge. The UK could so easily go down that route due to the way it has manipulated the new up and coming generations, and the new generations will not even realize what they are doing is wrong.
When one of my brothers children was close to leaving school, the school had a concert where parents were invited to watch them show their tallents, and also to give pupils awards etc.. We went as my brother could not make it as he had too many children to look after... Now one thing that really struck my Mum and I was that all the pupils were very well behaved. When we were in school, even the best behaved of us would be independent enough to get up to a litrle harmless mischief.
How come even the rougher children who one knew would normally be up to no good were so well behaved? It was un-natural. Yes, it can be looked on as a very good thing, but they all seemed so uniform and controlled? We left with it all being a surreal experience. It was only then did we realize how effective the new brainwashing techniques employed in the education system work. Also, some of the awards given would never have been given out as an award when both I and my parents were in school. Some were for basic things that were part of ones schooling. Others were for high achieving pupils. The strange thing was that it was mixed in such a way that "Everyones a winner" so why try ones best? When I was in school only a small handful of pupils had such awards, and these were so rare that photos of past pupils having awards would be on a single noticeboard in the corridor opposite the headmasters office and the photos would often be some 20 years old! That was how rare special awards were.
I did have one award though it was not regarded as noticeboard material despite its rarity, and that is out of a whole day which was full of various ages of children from many schools meeting on a saturday to try to pass the European Cycling Proficiency award. Not many passed, and I was one of only two who did from my school, and the only person that day to pass it on a large wheeled bicycle. It was different from the traditional road safety UK Cycling Proficiency Awards in that this time it was all based on bicycle control rather then road safety, hence those who had a BMX or something similar had a big advantage as it was weavinb in and out cones without going too wide that one touched parallel white lines at the edges, going fast to a certain point where one had to suddenly brake and stop before one hits a second like without falling off or touching the ground... Things like that. I had my new racing bike which was a tad too big for me. It was the first brand new bicycle I ever had. Took my parents three years to pay for it, and it lasted me several years until I sold it with a few other bikes and a road legal moped to buy my Dawes Galaxy. The bike was a Falcon Prestige with a 21" frame and thenold 27" wheels which are a tiny bit larger then 700c wheels.
I remember the policeman who was at the end of the test (The police held the event) being impressed. He said "That's the first one I've seen pass today!" I had to wait for ages before it was my turn as a great many had gone before me. I did have an advantage. I used to delight myself (As we lived on a smallholding so had land and unlike many my age, I wasn't allowed on the road on my own unless my cousin (5 years older) came with me... so all my cycling was on lawns and garden paths, which the property had many, and these paths were such that it was a challenge to cycle without putting ones foot on the ground.. I had my own little route which took a good few minutes to complete and involved most of the property, even doung a 360 confined loop around the well which my Dad had made which had a fence surrounding it, so I would go round the well on the inside of the fence. And the bike I mostly did it on was either a Raleigh Chopper or a Raleigh Roadster, which was a large wheeled (For my size) roadster type of bike which I had removed the metal mudguards. I once did 80 laps of the course in a day which took around 6 to 8 hours of cycling to achieve. Fun days!

Yep, I don't think this generation are any more self-centred than the last. However the compulsion to keep checking your phone makes one a little more self-centred.

The traits associated with narcissism includ vanity, in love with oneself, self-loving, self-admiring, wrapped up in oneself, self-absorbed, self-obsessed, conceited, self-centred, self-regarding, egotistic, egotistical, egoistic, egocentric, egomaniac...

Sounds pretty self-centred to me...

This one is interesting. Does having awareness make you more aware of your own history or geography?
apparently not

I'm sorry but you clearly do not understand what true narcissism is. My mom was married to one for 9 years who abused the hell out of us and labeling all young people as narcissists just because you don't like the fact that they enjoy taking selfies for social media shows how ignorant you really are, not to mention ageist.

Quote:
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) involves a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for admiration. Others often describe people with NPD as cocky, manipulative, selfish, patronizing, and demanding.

I think the fact that younger people today are more open minded enough to befriend LGBT kids and kids of different races and nationalities shows that they have a helluvalot more empathy than the generation before them!
