It's okay roll your eyes. Just make sure to come back to this thread in about 7 months and read it again including your dismissive posts. Look at your financial investments today and look at them in say 7 months too.

Are the streets deserted and the shops closed because the Virus killed off 90% of the population, or because 90% of the population is scared someone might sneeze?
I didn't ask, I assume that people are afraid to go out in case they get infected and out of consideration for vulnerable relatives.

Let me re-phrase that re-phrasal, people are trying to not get infected :P

Sure. I get it. I don't want to be infected, either. I keep my office door closed, wash my hands regularly and use hand-sanitizer, greet people by waving, and stay away from crowded places. Easy. I am not, however, hiding in an underground bunker when I'm not running around in a MOPP-4 turnout.

Those people who somehow seem to get off on inciting un-necessary fear in others are what get me down.

What annoys me more than the panicking hoarders are the people who laugh at those who are cautious and treat the virus like an ordinary cold... sure, it's not likely to be all that harmful to those who are young and healthy, but there are plenty of us who are in the risk groups and if a young and healthy person who thinks it's no big deal catches it, he/she could infect some of us and, in the worst case scenario, be partly responsible of our deaths. Even my sister tends to laugh about it and say that people are overreacting, which is easy for her to say since she's healthy, but half of our family are in the risk group, my mom and half sister due to asthma and me due to low immune system.

I'm so relieved to hear someone else express these views as well. I am so pissed off at so many at this point:
the useless clowns in charge who could have easily stopped it before it got out at large (cough China cough);
the media and health officials who love to make it sound like this only dangerous to those in risk groups, the vulnerable ones, making it sound like we all have a foot in the f*****g grave, as if you can't have a chronic disease and still live pretty well in this day and age :roll: ;
the insensitive unempathic lowlife at large who spread the lie that all the ones at risk are at death's door anyway;
and finally all the lowlife who laughs it off because they're not at risk (and yet they'll often get hysterical "OMG do I have it" ) and puts us at risk with their carelessness.

I hope they get it and die, and I don't give a rat's ass how that sounds, they have already shown clearly how much they value the lives of myself and my entire family, I have no problem whatsoever returning the favor. I hope they all get fired (and that could happen, since there is so much whining about 'economic consequences'). As an unemployed person who risk actual death, imagine how much sympathy I have! LMAO

and no, risk groups isolating themselves is not a solution. Could work for the retired and unemployed, sure

except we all need food, and not everyone has someone not at risk who can go and buy food, and having it delivered from the store is expensive (and no help if delivered by someone with the contagion anyway).

This s**t could have been stopped easily. The world should have followed China's example in this, then we'd been over the worst now.

https://www.livescience.com/why-italy-c ... -high.html

Italy now has the highest number of deaths in the world from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. And the country's fatality rate from COVID-19 — at 5% — is much higher than the global average of 3.4%, according to the World Health Organization.

Another site says 5-6%, can't find that as it was on my phone and lost it.

My bad. I'm not sure how I got the figure I posted. In Italy it is actually 10,149 cases which have resulted in 631 deaths.

Although another figure to take into consideration is 10,149 cases out of a population of 60,550,075.

Agreed. World leaders who say that there is a cure (when there isn't), that the virus will run it's full course by April (likely not), and who think that having a million test kits on-hand is a Great Thing (it isn't) are also responsible for the spread of this virus.

I hope enough of us survive to vote those clowns out of office.

^ Of course, there are some who don't have anyone who'd bring them food and that'd be a problem, but many do. And one could isolate themselves completely aside from a weekly grocery store trip.

BTW, here the goverment has promised to arrange food deliveries to those who are ordered to isolate themselves but have no one to bring them food. How is it elsewhere?

I just said that probably the majority of people who died from corvid-19 were probably at death's doorstep anyways, so I guess you think I am a insensitive unemphatic lowlife and hope I will die from it then?

Although if that is the case maybe you can be consoled by the fact that I am at high risk due to respiratory issues, which actually caused me a brief clinical death once so far.

When I looked up how many people die from influenza each year, the CDC said the majority of influenza deaths happen to those who are elderly and or in poor heath. Which is where I got the notion from.

Even though getting it would most likely kill me, I am still saying that corvid-19 is not that big of a deal. In over 10 weeks a tiny fraction of the worlds population has contracted it. 117,000 out of 7,700,000,00 people.

While I am at high risk if I get it, with those kinds of numbers, so far the odds of me getting it are astronomically low. So that is why I am not panicking and I am saying it's not that big of a deal so far.

Normally around the world 150,000 people die each day. And again the majority of them are elderly and or in poor health.

In road crashes around the world there is an average 3,287 deaths per day. And thousands more who lose limbs and are paralyzed so on. People should be a lot more frightened of getting in a car than getting corvid-19.

Traffic fatalities are not highly contagious, infectious diseases. I think people are missing the point. The fear is not about what the disease is at this very moment its about the potential of the disease, 35-70% of the world could be infected with this disease IF public health measures are taken, without strong action being taken it could be even higher.

There will also still be the flu and every other health issue on top of this. Healthcare systems will not be able to cope(as they are already being overwhelmed in Italy and Iran). Supply chains will be impacted, as well as demand in many sections like travel and oil/energy sectors. The only reason covid-19 hasn't exploded everywhere is because of the actions taken already, they won't stop it but they did slow its spread. (source:https://www.narcity.com/news/ca/coronavirus-in-canada-could-affect-70-percent-of-people-if-not-contained)

Unlike the flu, there is no vaccine, no anti-virals or therapeutics, its more contagious, has a longer period of viral shedding(up to 37 days), can be spread even in patients with no symptoms etc etc. Source: https://www.thelancet.com/pb-assets/Lan ... 305663.pdf

It concerns me because I am on immunosuppressants and at risk, my aunt and her family who have many chronic illnesses is at high risk, as well as my grandmother. I've also lost over 60% ($7000) in just a few weeks from my retirement investments.

The speed at which it is spreading is rather disconcerting.

If it becomes widespread, the number of dead could easily be far more than a normal year of influenza.

That said, the thing to do is to wait and see.

In the meantime, take reasonable precautions. Wash your hands properly and refrain from touching your face without washing your hands first.

Soap and water are generally okay. Hand sanitizers are okay, I guess. I use Hibiclens (a surgical scrub), but if you use it make sure that you learn how to use it properly and no matter what, do not get it in your eyes, ears, mouth, nose, genitalia, anus, or in an open wound.

So what is your message? That everyone should be stressed out from fear? Have chronic knots in their stomach followed by bouts of yellow diarrhea? Lose their appetite and have insomnia?

That's what happens to me when I am stressed out.

Fear causing stock market panic is the reason you have lost money on your investments.

Not to mention that being stressed out will weaken your immune system. So stressing out about an epidemic is actually a bit counter productive. A good and sensible preparation is better.
