Talkin bout Your Generation
Nowadays leadership positions are largely held by Gen-Xers and members of so-called "Generation Jones". The "early" Baby Boomers who represent the bulk of those who served in the Vietnam War are mostly retired. These aforementioned groups differ from early Baby Boomers (and Millennials) in that they are much more comfortable with authority and related concepts such as traditional (traditional as compared to the "spirituality" embraced by some early Baby Boomers) religion. They are unusual as even in their youth they basically supported the power structure, in particular they admired the President (Reagan) who made the greatest impact on their lives whereas young people usually resent the sort of authority Reagan represented to some degree. I think it's this apparent respect for authority that makes them seem less self-centered i.e. the perception they are more willing to sacrifice for the greater good by serving their country etc. but in fact they are as willing to act in their own self-interest as anybody else, but do so while giving lip service to "traditional values" (at least until they are caught with their hand in the cookie jar).
