My spiderwort is coming back and blooming purple flowers again. Soon it will have a cluster of flowers like it did last year.

I read that in the old days they were used as a folk remedy for treating spider bites. That's where they got their name.

Love those blue planters.
There is a wild white variety that grows on the woods here and people used to forage it for spring greens. They called it bear grass.
I have some purple ones and some of the wild ones. The wild ones have smoother stems compared to others I have. There’s a really big blue one that grows wild on the roadside .I think it’s called Ohio Spiderwort.
Great plants.

Thank you. My mom gave these planters to me, the spiderwort i dug out my yard as it seems to grow wild everywhere where I live yet when I went up north I saw people growing these same flowers in planters and gardens. That's where i got the idea to do this. :)

I agree. The blue pots are fantastic.

I love spiderworts, but the ones with any size to them won’t grow this far south. :(

You have a good eye for beautiful flowers, DFK.

Thank you. :)

I managed to get my garden cleaned up and I started cutting back some of the dead leaves and watering it every day. Here's hoping it comes back looking as pretty as it did last year.

Also as luck would have it one of my blackberry plants produced a baby so i dug it up and placed it in a flower pot. I wonder if I should plant it in my mom's yard or give it away to someone else as a gift? :flower:

Giving plants to someone who appreciates them, ie, will make them smile, is one of the great joys in life. :D

I also have been trying to clean up the yard. Last weekend, I uncovered a garden cart that has been missing for the past hurricane or two. :D

Know what I would love to give to my mom someday as a gift? I would love to plant her a white grapefruit tree in her yard. It's her favorite fruit but so hard to find nowadays. :)

They sell seeds on amazon but I hear growing trees from seeds is kind of hard...

But the saplings are so much more expensive. :|

^ Growing a tree from seed to fruiting would likely take a long time, too.

Is it possible to graft white grapefruit onto another type of sapling?
That usually provides for a strong growth and quicker results.

I'm honestly not sure but I can always look into that. :)

It certainly works well for plum and apple - I think it's been used for lemon and orange, too.

According to this website it is possible. I'll have to save this website and try it myself. :)

Nice visitors!
I have snowdrops, daffodils , crocus and few yellow buds open on forsythia.
Lots of activity in the garden pool. The salamanders and frogs have left eggs.

Speaking of yellow buds, the carolina jasmine i planted in my garden last year has one little yellow bud that looks like it's about to open any day now. I'm so proud of it! :D

^ Very nice! We call it Carolina jessamine here and they are the first flowers to bloom in the spring. And they smell heavenly!

I also miss the spring bulbs. It is so nice to hear about them.

My thrill for the day: the first hummingbird of the season.
