I'm a Seppo.

I had Australian neighbors when I lived in Tonga.

Tonga looks like a neat set of islands. Do you live now in Australia and how did you like living on an island?

QLD would be a birdy state, especially good for parrots. They are on stage 5 water restrictions I believe (due to drought), which means no watering of gardens and no car washing. Water is only used for personal consumption.

It's a very flat country apart from the Great Dividing Range which runs down the eastern states. WA and SA have a few low mountain ranges.

If you prefer a milder climate in QLD you can live up in the highland/mountains area, apart from that it's hot/warm all year round.

You can check climate stuff at the weather bureau www.bom.gov.au

Thanks. Shows there are some low cost places south of Brisbane which I am interested in.

Always on that restriction? Yea! the government doesn't require me to water my yard! Does it rain often enough to keep things green though?

It's like a plane but not plain?

I like warm weather. I like the look of mountains, but I am afraid of heights. If/when I come I will probably come as a boat passenger.

Thanks, I've bookmarked the page. 28 Celsius in Brisbane at the start of summer *9/5 +32 = 83 Fahrenheit. Sounds like a little bit warm for Spring-to-Summer transition time, but it's not too bad.

I've never been in Australia.

Living on an island was fun, although Tongan culture is rather weird.

If you ever decide to go traveling/backpacking through Asia or Europe, you will probably meet more Australians than Americans on your travels, even though the population of the USA is about 20 times that of Australia.

Having Australian friends is probably an equivalent experience. People make the place what it is.

How weird can it be? I've met some weird people here in Minnesota even weirder people than I met in Texas. What was the most fun and what was the weirdest?

Besides the proximity I would say that may be due to the unequal distribution of wealth in America. Most people here are struggling with the generally high cost of living, total lack of job security, overwhelming cost of education, unjust federal court system, etc. Id est, life in America. I'm sure a ton of people would love to travel and would take delight in seeing what the rest of creation looks like, but they have so many troubles tying them down that it doesn't seem worth it in the long run. Some other factors come into play, such as unwillingness to learn a foreign language, racist/superiority attitudes, and other personality disorders. But I would say that lack of spendable funds would be the reason why not too many Americans are travelers.

Until I get over my fear of driving a car, I would be the pedestrian. I hope they don't run over me repeated times to make sure they've finished their job!! !

Pedestrian Cricket is just a game you play to pass the time - it DOES NOT involve running over, hitting or in any way harming pedestrians. Scoring is pretty warped and doesn't really make sense when you try to explain it but you'd get more points for identifying an old person with a walking frame than a fit and able jogger. You kind of make it up as you go along - the more ridiculous the better - beats checking number plates.

So, it's more of an identification game?

Its a game to relieve extreme boredom on the endless car trips that mean living in Australia. OK, so some people live close to public transport or CBD but for the other 15 million of us its a pity we can't have frequent passenger miles.

The game keeps kids and restless adults focussed on what's going on outside the car rather than irritating the driver with constant whingeing & cries of 'are we there yet' 'but you said' and 'mum, he's breathing on me' - you know these typical sibling spats made worse by confined spaces and hot weather.

Examples of scoring might be:
50 points Old aged pensioner standing at a pedestrian crossing
25 points Old aged pensioner crossing at a pedestrian crossing
100 points Old aged pensioner with a dog and a shopping cart
10 points Crossing guard
15 points Jogger
20 points Jogger with ipod

There is no apparent rhyme or reason. The randomness and ridiculousness is only limited by personal creativity and family rules.

Recently in Rosebud an 85 year old driver, trying to parallel park his car, reversed into a bench outside a bank and hit two oldies who were sitting on it. Unfortunately one of the people died. Needless to say, local radio and tv weren't shy of the references to pedestrian cricket.

If you are thinking of coming to Australia I think it helps if you have a warped or irreverent sense of humour. Perfect place for Aspies?

Do you mean that the judge didn't explain this to you? This just goes to show you what an incompetent legal system they have in Australia.

(by the way, the  indicates that I am just kidding)

You don't have to be kidding, try playing Carmageddon, in it you get to run zombies over, trash people's cars (And your own) and do really cool things, even if it's fairly old.

I should also mention seriously for a moment that Julia whatshername is currently PM temporarily - I heard it on the TV.

Don't if you say her name ten times really fast otherwise she'll appear and start taking funding away from your local public school.
