I'm leaving WP... don't blame yourselves... just each other!
Certainly, it ain't pork.
Wrong Planet does things to people
me, it has made me learn things-many I wish I hadn't learned...
meeting people I wish I never met
losing people I wish I never lost
I have always felt outside the circle-and seeing 8000+ posts makes me think "what am I doing here"
I don't think I'll leave for good...
but, I don't know what to say anymore
is all

Quite the serious comment here Kilroy!
I understand what you are saying and I can see how this could happen easily to any number of folks here.
I think it's quite the statement that you recognize this at all.
I hope you don't leave for good. I have enjoyed your threads/posts.
Sorry I didn't mention you in my list of names....
on a side note....
Your line... "Just another day in paradise" is the exact same one I heard up in Alaska.
I worked for a guy who ran the recreational programs for the soldiers and their families on Ft. Waingwright, Alaska.
He had a partner named Dan who climbed mountains, skied, etc.
Dan recorded his line on the answering machine for their outfit.. "Well.. it's just another day in paradise!...".
Eventually, Harry (the other boss) put this on a t-shirt for the Outdoor Recreational Program.
I've still got one of the shirts and so do my former wife and our daughter... good memories of our time in Alaska!
Your line makes me think of that everytime I see it! Thanks!

after the incident with a dear dear friend I have become jaded here
I don't know what to say to people anymore
and at the end of the day its not real-that's always been my biggest connecting factor
its not real...
just a screen
not a lot of people notice me anywhere
so, whats the real point?

Hey, I think I added my little blurb at the end of my other post while you were posting this.
Anyway...
Yeah, I saw (as best I could) how hard you and other's took the loss of who I assume you are talking about (a member here?).
If I'm wrong... sorry.
I agree that in the sense of what has always been 'normal' modes of human interaction, this is not 'real'.
I sometimes sit back and wonder if this is better or worse for me than trying to socialize in realtime.
Mostly I feel like it does something for me that I find positive, otherwise I would have been gone a little while back.
I think this all speaks to a real desire for human contact in a physical sense... seeing someone, smelling them, hearing them, even touching them. These things are important but not always available for different reasons.
I think it makes people sadder, more angry, or more frustrated to realize that they have little to no expectation of having a physical relationship with another person that will be long-lasting, positive, and not filled with painful experiences.
I also think that when we realize how much of our social activity is played out online, this just serves to emphasize the loss of human contact.
I certainly entertain the notion that everyone I talk with here is real and generally present themselves as they are in real life.
But without ever meeting any of you in the physical form... this whole relationship can be somewhat poignant at times.
It does make me wonder what sort of social misfit I am.
But then I remember how I spent my life before the internet... walking in the desert alone, staying at home alone, going to the movies alone... etc.
Having a wife and daughter for these many years filled my needs for physical interaction, but there were plenty of times we spent alone.. each off in their own world.
I find I am returning to my former life when I spent so much time alone (except for when my daughter is with me), yet this time I have my friends on Wrong Planet to interact with.
I can choose to see this as a negative or a positive... or perhaps both when looked at day-to-day instead of life-encompassing.

I'm not talking about Starbuline
I didn't know her that well-not like some
and we weren't like best friends
I meant someone else, I am always alone-the net never really helps much
it dangles people I wished I could befriend and whatnot and makes it so they will never be in my real life
and puts jerks in my real life...
the bad really outweighs the good with me and WP isn't helping

I like this! Two conversations at once! Perfect for an ADDer like me!
Okay you... BRING IT ON!... just don't bring your furry friends into this (they have sharp teeth and claws.. that would be an unfair advantage!
uhh... since I'm older and slower... can I get a handicap?

Oh... I am wrong about Starbuline then.
Well, I am sorry for your loss, it sounds as though it was much more personal than I had assumed.
I agree wholeheartedly with this statement...
This does make me sad to think about at times.
One other thing I worry about concerning these friendships I make on the internet...
Although I try to present myself in as genuine a manner as possible here and elsewhere on the internet (that really is my ugly mug in the pics I post
I know that is my insecurity 'talking', but it's hard to let go of.
It's all too easy for me to drag myself down by magnifying what I see as the negatives.
But I'm committed to not doing so on a permanent basis.
I wish you a happier life ahead Kilroy!
I wish I could pass on my optimism for the future to you.
I'd be interested in meeting you in person... at least we enjoy some of the same music!

that is true
my future is very scary to me
I don't think I'll ever get married or have kids or anything
more so because I don't think I could live with a woman
or be a father
go to collage-not something I wanna do
my life isn't gonna be any good, and I look at WP and think to myself
what the hell can this do for me?
and I answered nothing...

Yeah, but all those things you mention.. including WP, are just facets of your life... not your whole life themselves.
I don't remember how old you are, but I'm 47.
I know I have had a different life than others here in regards to relationships (having had one in high school, and a few after), but today I am alone. I feel alone and it does suck.
But what keeps me going is the fact that I can see the other parts of my life that I do better in... are readily available to me... make me happy today despite the things that are fringed with sadness.
I go to sleep everynight remembering that for almost 17 years I had someone to cozy up to, someone to hold, a warm body next to me, a person I loved and believed loved me back.
The realization that I no longer have that hits me hard... but I'm not giving up... too many years ahead for me to 'know' what they will bring.
Friendships? I take the good moments I have with them, when I can have them. Since I stay mostly to myself outside of work, these times with friends are not an every day, or every week, event for me.
I suppose I could say that I am REALLY good at denial!
I tend to keep an optimistic outlook for myself despite knowing all the bad things there are about my life.
I'm gonna die someday anyway... so the denial part is just helping me enjoy things until then.
And I do enjoy many things... with or without the physical contact of other people.
At least on the internet I can easily ignore the people I do not wish to interact with.
But then, the feeling of the internet not being "real", helps with this also.

just a bunch of crap no one but me cares about
What is talent to you then?
To me it's something attainable... not inherent.
What sorts of 'crap' are you talking about? I'm interested in knowing what it is!
