I think the economy will turn around when a democrat is finally elected into office. So, it might take awhile to fix Bush's mess so in maybe 1-2 years the economy will be back to normal. But if it is McCain, then a Great Depression will come, more of the same like Bush. The Dow is falling today because of how strong the economy is according to Bush. Also, oil is way below $100 so I got that one right as well. It will keep on falling but it will rise again if McCain is elected.

I agree. However, due to all the damage that Bush and his cronies have done during his time in office, a Great Depression may be inevitable, no matter who wins the next election. In fact, it may have already started. Then it's just a question of who will get us out of it faster.

Believe it or not, one of my predictions about McCain came true as well... that he would choose a woman as Vice President. Before he announced Sarah Palin as his choice, I had guessed that he would choose a woman in order to draw some of the votes from people who were disappointed that Hillary Clinton didn't get the Democratic nomination. Fortunately, there's a good chance that this strategy will backfire on McCain.

Seeing that 2008 is winding down...

Given the current economic state, no crowds the day after Thanksgiving.

Well, I was going to show some economic data, but my investment compan's site is so busy I can't get in. God, I wish people would just calm down.

Anyway, the data I have shows a recession, negative growth for the first two quarters o 2008, but then it turns around. If that trend continues, then the recession is over. The recovery is choppy, lots of peaks and valleys on a day-to day basis, indicating a high level of volitility. Investors are nervous. Wall Street doesn't like uncertainty. Sound like anybody we know?

A mathematician, an engineer, and an economist were applying for the same job.

The interviewer called in the mathematician first. The interviewer asked, "What's two plus two?"

"Four," said the mathematician.

"You mean exactly four?" asked the interviewer.

"Yes," said the mathematician, "Two plus two is exactly four."

"Okay," said the interviewer, and called in the engineer.

"What's two plus two?" the interviewer asked.

"It's very close to four," said the engineer, "Just off the top of my head I'd say four plus or minus point zero one."

"Okay," said the interviewer, and called in the economist.

"What's two plus two?"

The economist got up and closed the curtains, then he walked to the door and locked it. He returned to his chair, then looked at the interviewer and said:

"What do you want it to be?"

The Great Depression has arrived! The market MIGHT go up tomorrow because of bargain hunting but then unless this bail out thing passes, we are all doomed. Just remember a few days ago McCain said the economy is strong! Unemployment is rising, there is a credit crisis and housing crisis, during the summer the gas prices were out of control, and it looks like the only thing I got wrong on my predictions was about the hurricane even though I said it would be worse than the previous two years. Still, hurricane Ike wasn't as powerful as Katrina. Katrina is a once in a lifetime hurricane. I wonder if the unemployment has hit the 6.5% I said in the beginning of the year. And if you look at some of my threads about being depressed, I said a Great Depression will come. Just remember, the Dow dropped 777 points today and the Nasdaq nearly 200. These are record amounts but not record percentages. Still it is very scary. The economy is strong, just remember that saying!

The markets shed more than 20% of their valueat the start of the Great Depression. When we see the markets shed more than 20% of their value again... oh, wait a minute, they did that in 1987!

Aparently what I learnet from my economics class was that one of the things that solved the depresion was the acceptance in an economics theory, that involves spending of government and demand. Nowdays another depresion will not hapen as we have a better insight into these things and can get out easily, infact you would probably be seeing the government implenting these things now. My lecturer made it very clear that it could not happen again as they know what caused it, we have econimst all over the place looking out for things I dont think we have to worry about having another one.

Another thing which ended the Great Depression was the regulations put into place by FDR, later dismantled by Reagan. Installing new regulations is our best hope to get out of this mess.

The Dow fell more than 670 points today. This is the worst recession since the 1930's. This week on the market was probably the worst percentage wise since the Great Depression or the crash of 1987. In the beginning of the week, the Dow was over 10,000 points. Now its less than 8600. The bailout thing failed. Too bad, it should have saved the markets. Someone explain this one to me. On the day they were voting
on the bailout last Thursday, the market was going up because they expected it to pass. It passed then the market fell. That makes a lot of sense, huh? Getting back to my lovely predictions, I said Intel would hit $15 a share if there was a recession. It did in trading today even though it was up most of the day. Its that last hour the whole market just crashed. If this continues, Intel will hit $10 a share, the lowest in its history. Even the Almighty Google stock which was at 700 earlier this year is now in the 300 range. Just remember a few weeks ago, McCain actually said the economy is strong. At least now Bush admits that it isn't strong which is a first for him. That is shocking in itself. By the way, if something isn't done soon, expect the Dow to hit in the 7,000 range by the end of the year. Just remember the Dow was close to 13,000 at the beginning of the year and 14,000 last year.

I predict that 2008 will end abruptly in just over 2 1/2 months. :P
