Y'know, Strappy, I do find this a tad hypocritical on your part. When you insist on derailing previously entertaining threads (such as your attempted hijack of "Answers Only"), and someone (say, me) tries to gently nudge you back, your response is that we don't have to read your posts.

But when you read a thread with content that bothers you, you request that it be locked - even when it had nothing to do with you in the first place.

Can you see the untenability of your position here? Or at least the lack of a moral high ground from which to lecture others?

i can understand what strapples is all about with his liking to be tightly strapped in with things such as in his avator (the chest harness for powerchair users) i myself when i would ride the school bus, i would buckle up and pull really hard on the "tail" to pull it tighter, to me it felt i was secure and not painful

people with sensory issues (such as people who have autism) it helps them by giving them a calming effect, its basically silent stimming because of the pressure on the body from the wide area of pressure (such as from a wheelchair positioning strap in this case) releasing endorphins that help in calming the person. lets just say its the body's own natural tranquilizer. just think of his straps as personal portable huggers. i mean no germs or people to need, just the clothing or pressure.

pressure is also whats making a person feel good with a massage, but to a person with autism their senses might be hightened and overloaded and instead of going to a massage parlor to get the calming pressure, some use adaptive clothing such as weighted vests(and lead aprons) and things the wetsuit like clothing called theratogs. some of that needs a doctor or therapist's prescription and its a long process and alot of explaining to do to parents and to therapists. there is a connection between SID and autism and pddnos.

think of it this way, cotton, blue jean material, nylon, lycra feeling like sandpaper and only thing that dont feel like sandpaper is neoprene (wetsuit material)

so in strapple's case since strapples has a disability requiring the use of positioning straps and is going to get a powerchair soon, and has SID the straps for powerchairs that are sold by therafin and bodypoint are calming to him as well as supportive.

not trying to make this sound like a flame war about my friend, but strapple's strap threads and sid problem is NOT SEXUAL in any way shape or form.

S and M stuff isn't intrinsically sexual. It's not even really about sex. Doesn't mean I want to read about it at a 'general' website.

if anything i have intereacted with strapples since about nov. 07 and with his personality there is nothing that makes me think hes into s&m hes not a control type freak, hes not into torturing anyone. he dont have a libido so its just an interest of his that he really is getting into,

i mean look, i like door closers and am sitting here typing with one on table near computer as im typing this post, do you think im sick or strange because of my interest in door closers? i dont, i mean each aspie has their own thing, for some it may be uh-gi-oh, manga anime, for some its WoW, for me its door parts and for strapples thats bodypoint stayflex upper body positioning harnesses for use on powerchairs and wheelchairs.

It's called 'bondage'. that particular type of S and M thing. If you look it up you'll find it's widely seen as erotic or adult.

Reason why there is censorship here is because this is a support board and people come here for help and support, not to be attacked and flamed by anyone. But people are still nasty and get away with it because mods can't see everything on this board because there is so many posts per day and they do have lives. That is why it's up to the members to report a thread or post when they think it's inappropriate.

If people don't want to be censored and they do want to be rude and nasty, put people down, call out members, etc. they can do that at Zomg or at intensity. That's what those forums are for.

mm i guess this is where websites differ from real life - straps (or anyone else's) going on obsessively about their obsessions would get them ostracized, shunned, but here, you have to put up with it?

ugh. that's one of the good things about real life I spose.

If people are tired of one person's obsession, why click on their threads about it? :?

After all this a aspie board so wouldn't it be expected? And this place is supposed to be a safe place to talk about obsessions without anyone getting mad because that's what aspies do.

Once again, because apparently people can't read. Who the hell is talking about wanting to flame or be cruel?

I just want Strapples to stop hijacking threads. The real problem here are the a**holes who continue to go about this in the wrong way- with insults. So it's going to be the insults toward Strapples getting all the attention, and all the drama and bs. When all that needs to be said is "hey, try to keep your replies a little more relevant to the post" or "stop trying to find a way to change any and all subjects to your SID".

Seriously. No freaking harm intended.

I just want to NOT find myself ceasing to reply to a post that I previously found interesting because someone came in and made it not fun anymore (Someone could mean ANY thread-jacker on here, because there isn't just one). I don't want to be sitting here going "I give up" after a good 5, kind and subtle attempts at changing the subject back.

::rips hair out::

Not everyone who has an opinion about Strapples posts is some huge Strapples hater who wants his IP banned for eternity. I don't need people lumping me into categories with those who really want to make the kid feel bad.

And Jesus H. Christ, he's not into sexual bondage. How many more people will b**** about it anyway in this thread? A bunch, I'm sure.

I can't stand listening to people who try to make everything sound dirty or sexual. Or even making sex dirty, for that matter. The fact is his obsession with straps and chubby people hugs has NOTHING to do with sex at all, and that's the last freaking thing we need is people making him feel like his obsession is altogether inappropriate.

I got pretty heated when I heard people nagging about some chicks diaper obsession on here, too. Never heard her talk about it much, so I can't say I'm too informed. But it does seem like even us aspies are susceptible to "social norms" because if a stim or obsession of someone else's seems too "out there" for the majority of us, everyone's suddenly labeling it inappropriate. Ridiculous, I'm sorry, it just is.
