Humans cause so much damage simply by existing that attempting to live through one's life without harming another living creature is a futile battle; there is not much a person can do, short of going to live in the wilderness in a yurt and sustaining yourself on berries.

On another note, my mother's friend is a vegan. She is the most evil witch of a woman I have ever had the displeasure of knowing.

Thats like saying I killed one man, why not just killing 1000 now.

So Vegan = Evil witch?

That's not what I am saying at all. :? I'm saying that human civilization causes so much destruction to the environment and other living creatures that, as one person (in a house hold of meat eaters, now I come to mention it) I can't hope to achieve much simply from abstaining from eating meat.

And the comment about my mother's friend was unrelated to that point. I just wanted to express what a complete b***h she was (for personal reasons). :P

Never mind. I'm not going to explain it. :?

Meh.. I just think vegans get a bad wrap for the most part.

I think what I am saying is more along the lines of "I kill 1000 people just by breathing. What is the point in trying to save any in the face of such destruction?"

I understand why some would disagree with that assessment, however.

For the record a cup of broccoli has more calcium than a glass of milk- you really do not need milk for calcium!!

Iv thought about "juicing" but in all honesty, I have a pretty weak stomach, and I can't even make myself drink the Odwalla juice "Superfood." The whole algae, seaweed juice, and liquid veggies is just unpalatable to me. Maybe watching "Soylent Green" traumatized me, even through it was "crackers" they made people into wasn't it? :D
I do only drink rice or soy milk pretty much. (Daughter still drinks organic 1% milk, which is REALLY expensive I think. $4.00 a HALF gallon or 3 half gallons for $8.00 at Costco.)
I think the reason I quit eating red meat was because when I was a child we HAD to eat it. If you asked what was for dinner you got told "The Usual" which meant "steak, baked potato, and green beans" at my house. (My Dad grew up really poor, so once he "made it" we grew up on steak) I HATE steak and would rather eat a can of cream of mushroom soup, than eat a steak. As soon as I moved out, I quit eating red meat pretty much, it wasn't a "Moral Issue" just a matter of taste.
Oh yeah, Aridarr...if EVERYONE in the world thought of themselves as "that one person" and we all just did ONE thing to make it a better place, we could "Change the World." :D (Sorry, thats the "old Hippie" in me talking, but it's true. :D

I understand that perspective; I suppose I just lack that amount of faith in human nature. Old age has made me hardened and cynical...

I'm not actually arguing against vegetarianism or veganism, by the way.

I can send it to you kallister,(I have 2 copies) PM me where to send it o.k. if your cool w/ that, that is.
And I know you not trying to "dis" on the vegans or anything Aridarr. although your clarification was thoughtful, thanks :D
I'm trying to regain my faith in humanity also, and it is difficult. (REALLY difficult) to even keep hope alive. I even have a bumper sticker that says
"Losing Faith in Humanity...One person at a Time."
Didnt put it on my car through, Instead mine says "Be Green....Help the Earth Live" and "Yes" I see the irony of that being on my "Car" (Can only ride a bike in the summer here)
I figure its at least a "little drop in the bucket"(if only it would RAIN) and I can feel as through at least I tried to help shift the paradigm. (My "hippy" is showing again isn't it? :D I'm not ancient, but I'm no "spring chicken" myself.)
I'v been told "I write younger than I am"

You know my whole life I wanted to be a vegetarian but just couldn't. I have been staying away from pork. I would love to stay away from beef b/c cows are cute but they're delicious too. Now I'm seeing more and more ppl convert to veganism including my brother in law. Veganism is for those who don't eat any product made from any animals including milk, eggs, cheese, meat, etc. OK, I'm somewhat ignorant to this, but how does eating eggs, cheese, and drinking milk harm the animal? Does anyone know about this trend? I would think that not only would you need those essentials to survive but it would also save the animal from be cut to pieces. What's your opinion on this?

I'd be a vegetarian(but Not a vegan, EVER! Thats so incredibly stupid) but I just cant stay away from Beef! :D

Hehe, get it? I've never gotten a bad wrap at Subway; it's always the way I like it, with pickles, tomatos, lettice, olives, and red wine vinegrette!

I think Vegans just don't like the idea of animals being used. You would probably identify better with lacto-ovo-vegetarianism rather than veganism.

Although most Christians would identify with Genesis 9:3, the original design was 1:29-30 and I think vegetarianism is probably healthier based on that.

Vitamin B-12, which is usually obtained via meat, can also be obtained through some yeasts. I think Vegemite (tm) is one product that has it. Milk does too if I remember correctly.

I would like to be a vegetarian, but I can't right now because of family issues.

I don't see what christianity and vegetarianism have to do with one another :?
