Egyptian Mummies and Treasures

Ok, I've always been fascinated by ancient Egyptian stuff and their culture. Just thought I'd post some relics found in tombs and desserts.

The Crowns

The ruler of Upper Egypt wore the white crown and the ruler of Lower Egypt wore the red crown.

Preserved Foods

Egyptian food cosisted of pomegrants, bread, a cake made form dates, and duck.

Image

Cats

Eyptians were very fond of cats. Egyptian Mau is the one of Egypt's oldest breed and are the only naturally spotted breed of a domestic cats. They also mummified just as a member in the family.

Egyptian Dogs

These included

The Basenji found on walls of Egyptian tombs.

The Greyhound an ancient breed developed in Egypt for keen sight and speed.

notice how he looks a lot like Anubis, guardian of the Underworld.

The Ibizan Hound dog.

Dogs too were mummified

and this is how it would have looked.

Mummies
Earliest mummies were naturally preserved by the dessert.

Mummies were then improved to be preserved into tombs. THis is the famous Tutenkamun tomb.

This is his mummified face.

This is a recreation of what his face might have looked like.

Other Treasures

King Tut's bust

Nefertiti's bust

Jars that contained organs
The only thing left with the mummy was the heart.

Mummy Mask

The strange Akhenaten figure
Akhanaten was the only ruler who believed in one God. He turned 2,000 years of Egyptian religion upside down overnight!

Because of his strange appearance, experts agree that he may have one of 2 syndromes which were the Froehlich Syndrome and the Marfan's Syndrome.

Engraved drawings of Akhenaten and his wife Nefertiti.

The After life

Osiris was the ruler of the Underworld

Image

Ka and Ba

Ka is the life force or spiritual double of the person. Ka represented the pharoah's right to rule, a universal force that passed from one pharaoh to the next.

Ba is represented as a human headed bird that leaves the body when a person dies. The face of Ba was teh exact likeness of the deceased person.

Ba the bird and Ka the double of the person.

And that's the end.

Cool. 8) I'd love to go to Egypt, and snoop around like an archaeologist.

Heh I have so many sites about mummies, and not just the Egyptian kind.

There are actually places around the world where they have their dead on display, in fact there are a couple of Buddhist temples in China who believed 'self mummification' is the highest state of being and display the mummies proudly.

This is one of my many 'unhealthy' obsessions. I plan to go to Italy to see the Capuchini catacombs of Palermo at one point or another.
