i go to the doctor often, and i have experience with many pieces of medical equipment, i like medical equipment, i love going to the doctors office and hospital, its fun going there. i have had a lead apron on many times, especially since i got this neurological disease 2 years ago, i have gone for at least 20 radiology proceidures requiring a lead apron in the last year...

i always fall asleep during x-rays, since it takes about an hour on each visit for me.

well i've never had anything major happen to me that would require me to have to go to the hospital, but there are things that need to be done but we need a little more money before we can do those things(insurance doesn't cover all the expenses)

my insurance does not cover near all of my expenses, it is still very expensive for us.. but we go anyways because we have to. there are no things that we do just because we want it, i have no wishes for cosmetic surgery...

anyways, to describe what its like...

at my hospital the lead aprons are either latex, or neoprene or nylon... i love all three of them... especially the latex ones if i am in for a long x-ray series as those get very warm and sticky and i fall asleep. they are all very heavy...

if you like heavy things that get warm on top of you then you would love x-rays haha..

Apron strings topic

Standing up while wearing a lead apron is no fun. It hurts your shoulders because of the weight. But lying down with it on is comfortable. :)

i have never worn one standing up luckily always laying down or sitting in a tilt chair (barium swallow study)

do you work as a radiologist?

if i worked as a radiologist id be on the table with all 5 of the aprons (most radiology rooms have 5 per room)

id lay there with all 5 piled on top of me and go to sleep... leave the IN USE sign on so it looks like im working on some patient hahaha.

Heavy as lead (part 2) topic

Strapples,I have accompanied many seniors to x-ray when I worked as a PSW. They disliked the heaviness of the apron because of arthritic joints. Me, too. This is why I do not like the heaviness except lying down.

Interesting job, though. This is one job I would enjoy, as I like looking at x-rays. I worked in an x-ray department in the late 1980s, where I helped to book appointments for MRIs and CT scans. I also filed the films in the library. More paperwork then, because computers were not as widely used.

i like you like looking at x-rays, i also like looking at CTs, not as much MRIs too much crap on one film...

i'd like a lead apron for home lol, id use that as my blanket instead of anything else... they also get very warm since they dont dissipate heat very well... id like a latex coated one for myself... since its warm and sticky feeling...

Not a cooking apron topic

Strapples, I think there may be a medical reason why you like to be hot and sweaty!

Your muscles do not work as well as mine, since you have a neuromuscular challenge. Muscles need to work, to dissipate heate. By loading your body with weight and cover, you force trapped heat and hence sweating, which might be a sort of muscle workout. Good for the muscles, good for your well being.

If this works for you, great. As long as your hypothalamus (brain heat recognizer gland) and your sweat glands function all right.

i don't know if that really explains it, since it wouldn't really help my muscles by much, they do not generate the protein needed to make muscle fibers... I think it is more of a sensory thing, however this medical explanation could have some weight in the situation.

my hypothalamus works fine, and i can sweat like a pig sometimes hehehe, i like the way my sweat smells hahaha.
