my Dad got to work on carrier planes post-WWII (missed it by a week), but spent most of his time teaching electronics (vacuum tube). Not many stories there...;)

I'm interested in WW1 mainly. I became interested last year when we learnt about in in school. I'll read or watch about other battles and wars as well if it's on the TV or whatever. It's all facts so I'm good at remembering it. :D

Maybe there's one I'm not seeing there, but that picture looks more like a Tiger, or possibly a Super Sherman (I probably need my eyes checked, too)

I thought the Lee was a pre-WWII (used early in the war) tank, like the Grant. One of them (I forget which), had a short, stubby cannon that could only move about 80 dectrees...coming out of a slot in the side.

I do believe father mixed up his Yank Civil War Generals.
(I was wondering when someone would catch that ! !)

Nice picture. Thanks for posting it.

I went and checked on some details the picture provides with some of my manuals.
If I am not mistaken, this is a picture of a PzKpfw V Panther.

These are the details from the picture that I used to come to my conclusion:

First, the turret is facing towards the rear of the vehicle (note the twin mufflers). Even from the angel the picture was taken, you can tell the barrel of the main gun overhangs the rear of the vehicle a long way. That is typical of late war German AFV's.

The twin mufflers are set in the right place for the Panther.

If you look closely, you can tell the rear hull plate is angled back. That was a design feature of the Panther.

The tracks are clearly a German design.

The design of the copula on top of the turret matches that of a Panther.

On the left side of the vehicle, you can see how the front part of the armor slopes down towards the tracks. Again, a design feature of the Panther.

world war 2 mainly. Fascinated by the Aircraft and Submarines.

I just learned my Great Grandfather (Wilhelm Conrad Hosse) was involved in the suitcase-bomb plot to assassinate Hitler.

Valkyrie - Oh yeah, just saw that; the Scientologists were caught in a plot to assasinate Hitler...;)
