You're not referring to Jagged Little Pill by "her first album", are you? Because that's not her first album...

I don't really know much about the others, but Britney Spears must be destroyed. I don't know why she's so friggin' popular, she can't even sing.

That womanizer song isn't even a song. How is it top 40?

Britney's Awesome! - The only reason I don't buy her music is because her baby voice can get on my nerves.

britney spears i think has a lot of talent innately. it is silly to condemn people who are musically talented enough to be liked by a lot of people who have a taste for their music.

musically untalented people can never use music to "market" themselves. there are many very pretty girls lying on californian beaches who would be superstars if they had some talent for music.

i think that britney spears as a child had a lot of talent for "infectious performance" and she was a studious and capable singer

along the way, she must have been snapped up by the "marketing machine", and the influences in her life from gelled haired, and self absorbed executive types were what she followed, and she is now a stylized product.

i blame the greedy and image obsessed people along the course of her upbringing for distracting her (with fame and fortune) from her initial talent that she honed in her childhood.

whatever. people are too quick to condemn what they have not thought about.
i mistakenly bought a dvd that was the biography of spears and i watched it and i was very surprised.
it is a shame her youthful talent was eventually mauled into a sexual marketing excersize.

here is a clip i found of her singing style when she was 10 years old. she does have innate talent i can see.

anyway the worst song i heard in my life was one called "happy shining people holding hands".
i hate that song.
song writers are the ones i dislike for composing woefully bland and unexciting melodies. the performers are just heralds that spread it.
people that jump up and dance happily to it i am unfond of as well.

i hate that song "unchained melody" even though it is not badly written. it is really irky for me to listen to.

i hate the song "maccarrina" (sp?) (that is the song where people dance at karaoke places and do all the programmed moves, and it goes "ohhh maccarina" or something).

i do not like music that is tied to sex. people like rod stewart are tawdry and banal in my mind. "if you like my body...and you think i'm sexy....come on baby let me know"...is a corruption of musical direction by basal testicular hindrances.

these days, there is sex intertwined inextricably with "music".
so much music is just a melodramatic backdrop for expression of "attitude".

there are little pouting starlets everywhere that sing songs that are nothing more than "theme songs" that are designed by marketers to promote an image for them.

talent and newness of musical direction is an ingredient not much music now has.

so i can not answer your poll because i only know "spears" name, and i think she actually was talented once.

If music videos were outlawed, I'll bet that 90% of these so-called "musicians" would've failed, and we might actually have some decent music. Not that I'm completely against music videos... they were an interesting idea at first. But nowadays, the musicians rely too heavily on them, and the actual music becomes only secondary. After listening to some of the "hits" on the radio, with no visual aid, I had to wonder why most of this crap became so popular.

One other thing... when listening to music, I don't care about who the artists are, or whatever "image" they want to project. I only care about whether their music is good or not. And in my opinion, "spicing up" the music with sexuality does not make it good. If you have to rely on people's hormones in order to be popular instead of QUALITY, then you don't have much talent as an artist.

I'm certainly referring to "Jagged Little Pill". I am familiar with her two teen pop records she did in Canada in the late 80's - "Alanis" and "Now Is The Time", but they never came out here in America (which was probably for the best). Alanis herself doesn't count her first two albums either (It's kind of like how Pantera wishes their first four hair metal albums would just disappear from the face of the Earth).

But my point remains valid. After Alanis met a good guy and got over being used by Dave Coulier, she just hasn't been as interesting.

When I first heard that "one hand in my pocket" song I thought oh no this is going to be big. I actually like the song, but I think I knew that the rest of her music wouldn't be up to the same standard and she would be able to get away with it because she made a name for hersefl. Also the songs were going to be thrashed.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh.

Queen - I can't stand him and don't like some of GNR's songs - he sings through his nose. They both do.
Britney has a pathetic baby voice at times and I wonder if Miley Cyrus is on steriods.
