And then I start talking about the power train in the bus, the difference between diesel and unleaded gas, and how diesel is the same as home heating oil, but there are laws restricting using one in place of the other, the details of the internal combustion engine and the similarities and differences between it and the James Watt steam engine, who, by the way didn't really invent the steam engine per se but how his refinements really were a big step forward and very influential on the industrial revolution - which still has a lasting impact on the world we live in, and how the internal combustion engine converts chemical energy to mechanical energy which really makes one think about all the other details and applications of the law of conservation of energy - which now we call the law of conservation or mass-energy because of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity - you know he taught at Princeton in New Jersey - and people don't usually think of New Jersey when they think about advancements in Physics - but Einstein never really felt comfortable with Quantum Physics, even though his Nobel prize was really BECAUSE of its contributions to Quantum Physics.
About this time I notice there is something about his face telling me he is not completely pleased with what I am saying which makes me nervous. Maybe he thinks I don't really understand Quantum Physics - but I think that if I can just explain some more then I will impress him - and he might go home and tell all his friends about this guy he met on the bus who was really smart and - well I don't know those people, I think it might be really nice to just think about this guy being impressed enough to tell his friends. But just then we are at his stop and he gets off so I don't really get a chance to share what I know the way I would like.
So I just look out the window for the rest of the trip and contemplate Physics and Mathematics - but then no-one else sits next to me so I don't really get to share what I know. Which I am a bit sad about. But it is really nice to think about Physics as we drive along and I stare out the window.
