That's a good picture of me. Thanks. Normally I'm quite camera shy, kind of hate picture being made of myself but on this one I (metaphorically) look kind of witty into the lens. Yay.

But anyway, the ermine's coat is slowly changing into fox-, tan-like red brown colour at present. Not sure about the exact time. That process is different, the timing I mean, depending where the little fellow lives. Here in Holland the ermine stays a bit in between in wintertime, most of the time not turning totally white. Probably in Norway, like the picture, the little creature turn totally white. How it exactly works, beats me, but it a camouflage thing enabling the ermine to hunt better. Think unseen surprise attack.

Not saying it about myself of course but this creature is a very smart predator who can catch birds and squirrels quite easily (which is a pitty for the bird and squirrel, I like them also). But nature doesn't know or have morals like most humans have and it's just surviving.

Røys = a pile of stones/rocks. Ermineas can be seen in these piles
of rocks that farmers have gathered and thrown at the side
of the fields for example.

Katt = cat

Sounds cool indeed. I think Syzygyish is talking about a place where they nurse plants or trees. Maybe an orchard or a word you might recognize also, 'boomgaard'.

Some extra info, I almost obsess about the creature here but the ermine would at all cost try to avoid an encounter with a cat, dog, lynx or other animal which aren't on his diet but, and I'm not being aggressive here, if such an encounter isn't avoidable the ermine (when healthy) turns so f*cking nasty that the first two surely wet their undies, hit the road and will always remember the clash. The lynx, very cool that you Scandinavian folks still have them, I'm not sure about. But about big dogs is known they lose. With scratched snouts and tail between their legs they leave, again only when the ermine is totally cornered and there is no other solution than to fight.

I admire the creature greatly and this might sound a bit arrogant but there are more than one resemblances.... nah never mind. You get the gist.

Btw, the ermine is called 'hermelijn' in Dutch.

'Eenvoud is het kenmerk van het ware', but to translate it into good English I actually need help. This bothers me deeply, for quite a long time now. I was kind of hoping someone came up with it spontaneously. Never did.... so now I must try it myself but it wouldn't be the most beautiful or spot on translation. Even Google couldn't help me here, I noticed. But....

Thats really nice but i'm afraid i have no translation for it, but yours is pretty good anyway. i remember in high school we had a motto in latin

Here's another great one, 'Solum certum nihil esse certi, et homine nihil miserius aut superbius'. I have this out of Montaigne's Essays but originated from Gaius Plinius Secundus. Blah (3x), but he wrote that almost 2000 years ago and is still so spot on true, imo.
