Most common dreams for me (other than reading and writing) (other than PTSD nightmares):

Seeing and talking to my deceased father.
An old house that I explore, because the owners finally left me alone in it. (It's rather scary -- always same house).
Being in the passenger seat or back seat of a car with no driver and having to stretch for the controls.
Being lost on something that looks like the 5 Freeway in California and missing exits.
A cinema with a glass escalator (it's scary somehow).
Teeth falling out.
Being in an airport but not knowing where I'm going.
Watching airplanes crash (I'm on the ground pointing).
Travel -- always eastbound (walking, biking, trains, busses, planes) and feeling like I went "too far".

Most ancient cultures considered west to be the location of death, and east of birth, because the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. So maybe "traveling east" symbolizes turning the clock back, or beginning anew, or even returning to the womb, or like that. Just a thought.

Bookysashi? Or Face of Boo?

And either way which kinda "have kittens" do you mean? Did he just own 12 kittens, or did he give birth to them?

I walked a long distance, and all the way there and back home, people asked me to do things for them.

I dreamt my tin can in the woods was transformed into the break room of the hospital I used to work in, and in my kitchen [now in the breakroom], there were these giant wasps, oily and oozing from a disposed-of wilted rose stem which was wrapped in white crepe paper, they were growing as they ascended the stem, before they could get any bigger and more dangerous, I wrapped the crepe paper rightly around them, twisting it shut, then pulled it out from the garbage bin, threw it on the floor and stomped on it until I could be sure that those nasty little buzzers were good and dead. :skull:

You dream a lot about the hospital, don't you? I hardly ever dream of old work or even school.

This dream I had seemed set in an Aliens film - low saturation blues and greys, and the sci-fi technology seemed to match that as well...

I was in a large cyllindrical depression made of black craggy rock - like the plug of an extinct volcano. It must have been 100-200 feet deep and about twice that in diameter. There were a few tents and machines set up about 50 feet from one of the edges, with 2 bulbous glass space/aircraft for exiting the place.

I was with another space-suited explorer, and we were entering the uppermost of a series of horizontal openings in the rock wall. Once inside, this opening revealed a few steel walkways and gantries, with an appropriate amount of dry ice. My helmet scanner (because apparently those come standard) outlined 4 people in the depths of this cave and 2 larger, strange-looking humanoids.

I can't remember how, but we left the first cave and entered the second, lower cave. In this one, I saw a couple of large quadrupeds, with 2 crocodilian conjoined heads each. One saw us and bellowed, alerting an endless swarm of man-sized scurrying insectoids we hadn't seen. We ran to the cave mouth and started to rock-climb down just as the wave of them crested the mouth and began pouring into the pit. They started pouring out of the other three caves as well. One of the croc-heads had been swept to the edge, crested, and fell - knocking my companion to his presumed death. Others followed.

A larger, all-black, lizard-like creature emerged from the third cave down and began snapping at the fallen objects until it too fell into the pit. From the fourth and lowest cave, came a massive eight-legged creature, appearently made form the same rock as the landscape. It was circular, like a plate with legs equally spaced, and stone spires about each leg. It bagan catching some of the insectoids.

My hand slipped and I fell, landed arse first on the gound. There were no creatures around me, and no sign of them. I ran for the escape craft and saw there was only one left. Before I could get to it, the other explorer pushed me down and escaped themselves. Their departure started a rumbling again which signalled the waves again.

I ran to the other side of the hole and managed to squeeze through a gap in a stalagmite wall to a large frozen hollow behind. As I backed away, one of the craft smashed though, glass front first, creating a hole for the creatures.

And that's all I remember before waking up.

^^^WOW :o that is QUITE the dream. :wtg: if you padded it out to a sci-fi short story length, I think you'd have readers.

My dreams have always been plot-heavy and fantasical - that is, I don't remember ever having a long period without at least one "epic" dream. I've tried fleshing some out on paper, but they don't stay "short" story length. My prose is always a bit hammy though. I guess I'll leave the narrative stuff to my unconscious brain.

I suspect many short stories should be called "shortened stories," IOW they were considerably longer and then whittled down to size.

Last time I had a dream I dreamt I was an old lady who was exploring a jungle. I often have weird unexplainable dreams.

Dream1 (2 nights ago)
I was about to drive to work, but my brother needed my car, he had to stop two monstrous bears, they were huge, both had two ferocious heads, and were out to kill. My brother shot one and it turned into a regular bear, he then drove off in the car, the other bear chased after him. I found myself at work, before it started, the regular bear came in and pinned me down. It wasn't quite regular though, its genitals were on its neck, if I didn't fondle it, I would've been mauled.
When I got away, I found myself at home again, my brother still had the car. My mom let me use her van to get to work, it was an unusually tall van. It was so tall that it couldn't make it under the bridge, I kept trying to get through anyway, I needed to get to work. A woman my age was sitting on the sidewalk laughing at me, in my frustration, I kicked her in the head and she stopped laughing.
I walked to a walmart, this was the same walmart from a dream I had a different night. In that dream, I had wanted to get to that walmart to wash my hands, but I was at a gas station at the bottom of a small cliff. Now, in this dream, I was on top of that cliff and couldn't get to the gas station. My friend was at that gas station where he had been fixing his car.

Dream2 (last night)
I was in my old friend's house in colorado, it was completely abandoned and empty. I was admiring the layout, there were outdoor spaces surrounded by the house in a way that made them seem like a part of the house itself. I was outside, trying to take every note I could about the house when I saw my friend's mom walking from her own house nearby, I realized that I was trespassing and started to move away from her property, she drew her rifle on me, and I started to run away. She chased after me, I ran to the tall grass and laid down on my back, watching her look around. She was beginning to spot me, so I sprang on my feet, grabbed her rifle, and threw it. I then ran away as fast as I could.
The next night, I was at home, my mom was cooking dinner, she would have guests over. When the guests arrived I realized it was my friend's mom and her husband; before I could explain myself, she apologized for trying to shoot me and said she had no idea it was me. Some time later, her husband was called up, he was a chaplain and had to be there for someone who was about to die.

this is only a snippet from the dream as it was a few nights ago, but these guys were like in the water and the dream was from one of their point of view. There was this fence, which marked the salty part of the ocean and the sweet half of the ocean (I??? don't even know) and there was this dude next to the guy on the other side of the fence talking to the two guys and randomly the guys on the opposite sides of the fence just start making out???? for absolutely no reason at all???? and the other guy was like "UHHHHHHH WHAT IS GOING ON WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT" and he just starts screeching.

It was so random ?????? I woke up so perplexed

I dreamt I was exploring the woods somewhere with my older sister, and we came upon a cave, and near the rear of the cave was a pile of cardboard and such leaned up against a wall, we moved it out of the way and found a beagle juvenile [dog] cowering, we picked it up and fed it and pet it and reassured it, then my sister got out a portable animal sphygmomanometer and wrapped the cuff around its paw, then mysteriously set the systolic maximum at a painful 250 mm/mercury, which made the poor thing writhe and howl and try to escape the punishment. then I awoke.
