same sex marriage rally! good turn out. we did a sit down and married people in the middle of the road. people from youth group found me and i directed them to the informal contingent they always form. my job today was to sell badges but really they sold themselves. one of our comrades was amazed at all the notes that came out of my pocket at the end and counted them and reported back to me. we made $135 from selling badges today. my house mate was also there and i sold her 4 though 1 was a free palestine badge. she cheekily said she would wear them in front of her parents. it was her first protest. she really enjoyed it. i love the way people respond to these rallies, cars honk in support, people come out on their balconies and wave, drunk people agree its fantastic... i think my favourite chant was "i say bigots you say f#ck off! bigots! f#ck off!" and our post rally meeting went well. its the first normal post ssm rally meeting ive been to. and i talked to the comrade who gave me the readings and he was nice and then i talked to another comrade who was one of the first people from our organisation i met and he congratulated me on my "emancipation", confirmed the fact that im staying in what was his room, gave me tips for staying alive and told me about his issues getting centrelink. it apparently took them 6months to approve his claim, he had to take out a loan from uni, they backed paid him $1000 and he got on youth allowance and was getting $130 a week and they totally f#cked him over.
edit: holy cow!
i just realised that we ended up on the news! even the mainstream media reported on this and there are video and photographs too! wow i mean i get why they reported on the ALP conference but our other actions for the last 2 years have had a more limited coverage. the red block got a lot of air time too. im in the abc video though which is bad seeing as im a closet case...
