sometimes i fantasize about being compensated by the government to the tune of millions of dollars for unlawful arrest and pain and suffering that arises from false imprisonment.

here is how i would do it:

i would be walking down a street at 1 am in the morning, and when i see a police car, i "panic" and bolt off in the opposite direction. the police would immediately target me as an arrestable person and give pursuit. they would then chase me, and i would run as fast as i could into bushland, and then they would have to call in the police helicopters to search for me. meanwhile, i would run as fast and hard as i could, gaining"cover" behind feeble bushes and acting like i was terrified of being caught by police.

if i successfully escaped their initial chase, then it would escalate to a nationwide "manhunt" (i love that word (it makes me laugh)). if they had a good idea of what my face looked like, then they could publish an identikit sketch of me and appeal to the public for assistance in identifying "that man". "wanted for as yet unidentified crimes".

when some member of the public reveals to the police who i am and where i often walk, i would eventually be seized with force, and my head would be pressed into the dirt, and police kneebones would be pile driven into the rear of my ribcage, and i would be seriously manhandled.

later, when they investigate what i may have done prior to my fugitive behavior, they find nothing that i am a suspect for. i have no police record and everyone who knows me testifies that i am a descent and sane person.

my excuse for running away would be that i did not even know that police were chasing me. i would say that at 1:03 am i suddenly and powerfully decided that it was time for a run, and so i just started running at top speed for only that reason. the reason i entered completely dark bushland was because i found it more challenging to run at top speed in completely dark bushland.

if i was a clean as a whistle (whistles incidentally are probably among the dirtiest objects) then i would have to be compensated for bruised wrists and broken ribs.

they could not pin anything on me or prove that my eccentric story was untrue. thanks. that'll be $1.300,000 ok?

it is interesting when one considers the games that one can play with public authorities.

just run wildly away from some authority who is casually monitoring you, and you can cause millions of dollars of revenue to be spent in finding you, and then millions of dollars in compensation when they have to drop their "case" due to no evidence of any crime committed.

Even though I've completely disabled every notification setting, those annoying Kaspersky security notifications still pop up about five times per day. :?

Gonna order a dozen arrow shafts next week when I have money. I'll put on the fletching and heads myself.

I like making up arrows and just sticking them in my quiver, which is too small for me now (got it when I was underweight for my height...). I like looking at it hanging off my door full up with arrows.

Thanks, jk1 and TenPencePiece for the confirmation that something's been tweaked here. :?

The edit button shouldn't be present if the allowable time for editing has expired but moderators have an active edit button for all posts, irrespective of age, so I wasn't able to check back on my old posts.

I'll see if I can find out of those changes were intentional - but a redundant edit button can't be intentional, surely...

Ballad of the apartment maintenance guys:

MONDAY: We'll get you a new dishwasher either tomorrow or Wednesday.

TUESDAY: You'll have it tomorrow.

WEDNESDAY: Yeah, sorry. No later than tomorrow.

THURSDAY: We're, uh, working on it.

:x

Hi Cornflake,

I hope you read this thread again.

a further question regarding how it works (not directly related to editing):

Would you be able to tell me why the cross button (I believe it's a "Delete" button, but never tried) is sometimes present and sometimes not in my new and latest post (a post of mine after which there is not yet any other post)? There was one time I wanted to delete my post as soon as I posted it because I posted it in a totally wrong thread and thought it would be embarrassing if other people saw it, but there was no "Delete" button in that post although there was no post after that one. So, instead of deleting it, I had to edit it quickly.

The "cross" button (delete post) should be present in a post only while it is the last in a thread, subject to the allowable edit time window.
Er, assuming that hasn't also been mysteriously tweaked...

But, there are bugs and it's better to edit a post to remove the content rather than delete it, because deleting a post breaks the topic watch action for everyone using it: update alerts stop and must be reselected.
Most people edit the text back to "..." or "(deleted)" etc, since a post must have some text in it. As we come across those posts we'll generally tidy up and move then to a hidden forum, giving the same effect as a deletion but without the unfortunate side-effects. (same for "Double post" edits, too)

 Oh great.
So... it looks like something else is broken and empty posts are now allowed.
What do you see for the "delete post" button - is it always present?

:P
Don't worry, I believe spaces count as text in the forum world!

Ah, good point - multiple leading spaces are removed for display purposes so I suppose this is a bug where the fact that something has been entered, even though it's removed during display, still counts as "text present".
Although... quoting or editing your post shows no text present at all - not even spaces.
