I took my Labrador to the vet today to get his nails trimmed. It didn't go the way I wanted it to.
Firstly, the lady there wouldn't do it without sedating my dog, because he has a reputation of trying to bite the person working with him. Second, he didn't get knocked out after he received his first dose, which was 50ml. Third, he still wasn't knocked out after a second dose.
So he was on a maximum dose of sedatives, and we still had to muzzle him and hold him down. It ended up taking three hours just to get something that should have taken ten minutes done.

At least they discounted it for me.
Makayla, that is shocking. Can you go to another vet?
I work at a vet clinic, and we have some really bad patients - I mean they are terrified of having their nails clipped. Most of them are so scared they try to bite. What we do is get them to come in for the day. Then we will clip one nail, and put them away for half an hour. Then clip one more nail, then put them away for twenty minutes. Sometimes it takes all day to get them done, but it is a lot less stressful for the dogs and the owners. We almost
never have to use sedation.
Also, after a few times coming in like this, most of them get used to it, and we can do them a lot faster - they just get left with us for half an hour while the owner gets coffee.
It is all about finding a clinic that cares more about the dog's experience than getting stuff done quickly.
