I wonder what is b9's opinion on the Gran Turismo series.
i do not have an opinion on the Gran Turismo series.
the first driving game i got was "test drive unlimited 2", and i got a ferrari thrustmaster steering wheel to play it with. it was rather boring after a while. the graphics were very good, but the cars felt simple in their configuration.
they were reasonably hard to control due to the low resolution of their handling characteristics. once you earned a bugatti or what ever, and a mansion, the rest of the game seemed pointless.
one thing i do not like about car racing games (all of them) is the lack of gradation in accelerator depression.
either you are floored or completely off the accelerator. there is no possibility of a leisurely drive at 70 mph with a gentle depression of the accelerator. the only way to maintain 70 mph is to intermittently floor it and then release the accelerator, and the whole process is unacceptable to me.
the thing that attracted me to forza 4 (not forza 5) is the inclusion of stock standard cars that i am familiar with, as well as the very highly resolved handling characteristics of those cars.
my father had a 1966 ford galaxie 390 cubic inch V8 and a 1969 zc fairlane with a 351 cubic inch V8,
and i loved driving them both. especially the 351 zc fairlane.
my few friends that i took on high speed excursions in the fairlane were terrified at the speed i drove because they said it felt like a drifting boat. when they drove it they were very timid because they said the power steering was too light and there was no "road feel" through the steering wheel.
they were also terrified that the car would overturn due to it's massive body roll in high speed cornering.
i trusted the fairlane more than any other car, and i knew how to drive it well. my mother got a ford escort 1979 or whatever, and it was claimed to have very good handling, and so when i drove it in 1988, i was shocked that i lost traction without any warning whilst negotiating a set of my favourite bends. it hung on with grim determination, but when it lost grip, it was an instantaneous shock, and there was no real way to steward the car back to sensibility.
i was lucky that i did not collide with anything during the turbulent 540 degree about face(s). i turned around and drove slowly back home and i never drove that car again with any impetus.
my fathers fairlane however was very predictable, and it started to feel "squishy" long before it lost control.
i could dance on my father's fairlane's suspension because it was just right. i could drive that car to extremes and have a long view of how it would behave in the next corner.
because i like stock standard "family hacks" (as they are called by some people), forza 4 was a game i had to buy.
gran turismo is a game with only supercars in it and i find that reasonably boring,
