The boat I've decided on:

About $1500 for the hull and another of the same for the engine (4 stroke, 4 horsepower; that's under the registration limit here, so no fees). It's a 3 meter Polycraft. It'd be the best for my mother and I, as it's stable, so if I shift my body around, it won't feel like the thing will capsize. I'll probably get gray (all different colors are available).

I don't know about me (I'll have one onboard in the least), though I'll have my mother wear one always due to her weakness from MS (I could drag her from one shoreline to the other, so that's good).

It's calm as anything, I'll be going slow, and I'll be near the shoreline trolling most of the time, so there's no real danger of getting knocked out or thrown overboard. Hitting anything submerged (treetops and whatnot) at slow speed won't be a problem.

I haven't passed out from my paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (AVNRT) yet, but I guess I should think about wearing one for that reason.

It's a nice looking dinghy, and it's light enough so I can put it on roof racks (engine and oars in the boot with the rest of the gear):

As for me I am pondering when I get my new car in 2 years if I should trade my old one in (probably for peanuts, like $4k) or sell it privately. I need cash to put towards the new one and I dunno if I can go for a few weeks without a car while I shop around. And then I'll need to travel because the car I want is as rare as hens teeth and therefore I'm not able to buy one in town. I'll probably end up getting one in Sydney or Newcastle, or maybe even Gold Coast or Brisbane. Only problem with buying a car from interstate is if it's legal to drive home (rego).

At the Royal Mail Delivery Office today, there was a notice on the wall saying, "PLEASE DO NOT PUT CHILDREN ON THE COUNTER".

Sounds a bit odd to me!

I can think of very little that could be worse that watching a television show that's dedicated to other peoples pets.

Christ, when I'm visiting my parents, I have to put the TV on the animal channel because those little cats and dogs running around doing stupid sh!t is the only thing I can tolerate. Otherwise they'll start watching godawful reality TV shows with spoiled a-holes shouting and arguing with each other, or sitcoms with annoying jerkoff characters who are supposed to be funny but really just make me want to take a cheese grater to my toes to distract from the pain.

I reckon if you can't get much for your one now, it's probably best to keep it for a backup or some other reason, though I suppose there's the rego fee if you plan on using it. Pluses and minuses, I guess.

Though even keeping it unregistered but good to go, can be helpful if there's an emergency and your other car is out of commission (so you don't have to rely on someone else).

I hope you can get the vroom vroom you want; 2 years may seem like a long time, but in 2 years it won't.

I'll have enough money to get the hull of the dinghy by Christmas, so I'm good there. Oar power!

There are pictures of night skies that I'm tempted to post.
