I'm sick and really wishing I could get over it.

Since (and including) Christmas Day, my total food consumption is 2 boiled eggs with a slice of toast, a small can of soup, a fourth of a large can of soup, a small piece of apple pie, a small bowl of orange jello, three rolls with butter on them, and a small bowl of ice cream.

If ice cream always tasted as bad as that bowl tasted, I'd probably weigh a lot less.

Probably just the flu. Initially, I thought it some kind of really strong allergic reaction because of the way my sinuses were draining -- I never saw anything like that from the flu or a cold.

I went to the doctor yesterday because a couple of women at the office thought I might have pneumonia. The doctor said that my lungs were clear. He did prescribe an antibiotic to reduce the likelihood of opportunistic infections such as pneumonia.

Most people don't realize that it is rare for the flu to kill people -- it is the opportunistic infections that arise while one's immune system is compromised.

Right now I'm staying at the office. I have two offices -- one public for when someone comes to see me about something and one private that I can sleep in or can work without being bothered. This works well at the moment because my house doesn't have any source of heat right now (there's not enough gas from the gas well to heat both houses so I'm staying here and letting my oldest brother and his wife have the gas). I'll have to install a heat pump this spring or summer.

it has been my experience that bug killers make food [especially sweet things] taste metallic. as soon as you get the antibiotic out of your system the good food flavors should return. and I also found that as soon as I quit the refined carbs that my sinus infections went away for good. [so far, 4 years and counting]

I didn't take the first pill of the antibiotic until today. Since then, all I have had was three rolls with butter. I actually had four prepared, but three was all I could manage to eat. The fourth one went in the trash.

One thing was that nice was that my younger brother loaned me his pickup to go to the doctor. The heater in my car broke about 5 or 6 years ago and I never missed it enough to bother to fix it. Driving the 30 miles round trip to the doctor in 10 F degree weather in my car was not something I was looking forward to. My intention was to put on the warmest clothes I have and wrapping up in the car in a blanket or two.

As it was, since I was driving his pickup with a good heater, I didn't wear all that great a coat. The coat is identical to the one in the picture:

The coat is fine for weather down to about 0 C/32 F, but when you're sick and it is about 10 F, it isn't enough.

that coat would work if you put a thin but dense-weave sweater underneath of it [thick and thin insulative air barrier], and augmented with a pyle cap, scarf and gloves and thermal underwear underneath pants, and tall boots with electric socks. :)

I had a sweater sitting here, but since I would have a heater, I didn't put it on. Before my brother offered his pickup, I thought about putting on an old pair of bicycle tights as an extra layer. I used to have a pair of goose down long underwear but haven't seen them in years.

the bike tights would work as the thin half of the thick/thin insulative barrier as long as you had boots on with both tucked into the boots or the legs cinched at the bottom. or the union suit would be a one-stop solution.

I also have ballet tights, but the bicycle tights are thicker.

I kept hurting myself playing volleyball so I took some adult classes for a couple of years hoping that it would make me far less clumsy.

It worked very well. I never again suffered an injury or incident playing volleyball or other sports that were the result of my own clumsiness.
