Are you getting a pet bird? That's really cool! We have a bird feeder and get tons of birds. They might as well be pets :)

Seriously: I'm sitting here by myself and I can't tell what direction sounds are coming from. I don't know what the F is going on. I'm all alone and there's no one else to tell but you guys.

The ceiling fan is making a noise (on the ceiling) but it sounds like it's coming from up the hall.

Also, as I'm tapping on my laptop (on the dining room table), the keystrokes sound like they're coming from the back veranda?

I haven't taken any drugs or alcohol.

I haven't slept in over 48 hours and I haven't eaten a thing (except ¾ of a banana last Wednesday (AEST)).

I'm a little bit worried as to what's going on and I'm alone!! Could this be the onset of a stroke?

Maybe just a hearing problem?

if your food and sleep have been restricted for that long, and you are experiencing mainly aural anomalies, I would guess [from personal experience at least] that your brain is protesting with something called an acoustic migraine. yes, they do exist, they are the aural analogs of ocular migraines. the way to tell for sure, is to whistle a swept tone somewhere between 500 cycles per second and 2000 cycles per second [that is the most sensitive range of human hearing mechanism] and if you hear "wolf tones" somewhere in the middle of that range, that is a sure sign of an aural migraine. the only solution is to GO TO SLEEP but FIRST EAT SOMETHING with carbohydrates in it. then sleep. when you wake up, chances are it will be gone or greatly reduced.

Oh auntblabby, I hope you're right. Thank you.

a) How do I get a "whistle that whistles a swept tone somewhere between 500 cycles per second and 2000 cycles per second"?

b) I can't sleep. Do you know when you're starting to go to sleep and your thoughts start to get a bit 'funny' and you realize, "Oh, I'm falling asleep!"? Well, for those nights, I'd never got to the 'funny' thinking part. I just lay there thinking about what's going on and thinking, "Am I ever going to get to sleep?"

With the eating, I do worry about it and I try to get food to eat but when I go to eat it, the thought makes me sick. I used to LOVE KFC but now, even just walking past a greasy fish and chip shop makes me feel sick. It's at the point, people at work are trying to get me to eat.

I've gone from 105kg (231.485 lbs) down to 65kg (143.3 lbs) through depression and anxiety over a space of about 7-8 months when I was in the psych hospital after I split up with my ex of 23 years and a 20 year old daughter.

Well auntblabby, I'm still alive and lucid :)

I do feel a bit giddy but that's probably the lack of sleep. I go through these periods now and again but usually, they only last for about 36 hours.

I'm typing to make sure I stay with it.

My normal sleep pattern is, I'll go about ~4 weeks on 2-3 hours sleep and the next ~4 on around 3-5 (varies) and then it'll alternate again. When I was in the hospital, they couldn't believe it. They'd check us every hour or so through the night and I'd be awake! :)

But this no sleep at all has only been a recent thing. I perform fine at work. I'm tired there in the mornings but I can still program like a son of a b***h (can I say that on WP  ) and most of the time, I don't feel tired.

How about you take some sleeping pills? And ensure? You could ask your GP for it. I got it when I was severely malnourished because of some digestive disease ten years ago.

liquid, complete nutrition for those affected by lack of appetite or disease:

I'm sure I'm alright. I think it's getting better but my eyes feel really weird. Sort of puffy.

I've got cochlear damage, REALLY BAD tinnitus and I have Musical Ear Syndrome (MES), which basically means, from time to time (rarely, at the moment. It'll get worse), I hear music (stuff I don't even know (and some of it's good).

Oh, it also means, eventually, I'll go deaf! :(

For example, people with MES around Christmas time will hear Christmas carols (where they're not coming from).
In America, around Independence Day, they'll hear (whatever song that is).
I remember searching my house one early morning trying to find out where this music was coming from and I just couldn't pinpoint it. Where it was coming from, there was nothing there.

I worked it out!! Smart Aspie!! :) If I closed off my left ear, I could hear it. If I opened both ears, I could still hear it, when I closed off my right ear, I could still hear it BUT when I closed off both ears (even with earplugs), I could still hear it.

There was a woman in London who woke her husband up, complaining of hearing music. She was deaf!

What it is, is because of the cochlear damage, not all of the sound's frequencies make it through to the brain so, as the story goes, the brain grabs bits and pieces of memories to fill in the missing bits. I don't know about that. I've heard music I've never heard before and it's been good. Weird Schist (the rock)!

Yeah, thank you Booyakasha. :) Nice to see you here tonight (my night :) )

Thank you once again for my Myna bird masterpiece. I'm going to add some more to it tonight. :)

Yeah, the man across the road has been trying to get me to have these things we have here in Australia called Up And Go! I can't stomach it really.

Listen, I know what trouble you must have gone to to make the above post and I thank you. You're one of the nicest people I've met on WP in a long time and I've been on here a little while and I haven't even known you all that long! :) Thank you!

I knew then, it was coming from the inside. Just like the deaf lady could hear music. Now, as far as external sounds being distorted is concerned, my Mum's place at night is quieter than a mouse!
