Love the new avatar. Is the Australian private school system like the English system. In Canada we have private schools but they cost so much that you have to be an elite to go there.

Me too but I did turn one air conditioner on an hour or two ago and only have my bedroom window open. New York is finally cooling down which is good for me because I have to keep my bedroom door shut at night and some during the day to keep the cat away from the rat.

The fact that I'm a lot braver on WP and in real life than I was three years ago today, before I've changed for the better and became that fun CockneyRebel again. :)

On September 11th, 2009 - I've decided to be myself again as I was before Early 2007.l :)

thanks : ) i don't know if it's like the english system. i do know that you typically do have to be an elite to go there. the example we are using for our assignment is a school where 46% of the students are in the top SES quartile and 38% in the second highest quartile. students pay about $8,824 to go there. it's a rich school but not the richest we saw. the numbers are just scary. the ruling class go there although there are some kids who arent but they are exceptions. and they get waaaay too much funding from the government. 6,679,498 from the federal gov and 2,866,264 from the state.

today i was doing a stall with the socialist group i was with and we were doing a refugee rights petition and some guy walked past and as i said "free the refugees, sign the petition" he angrily spat out "shut up commie". it was the funniest thing ever. he was young too. its not like he was some old guy who still thought we were in the cold war era, he was just a w*ker. i laughed.
i also bumped into somebody from my primary school. i hadnt seen her in a decade.

The second half of the day in general. I hung out with some super nice people my age, and gave support to a friend who's been feeling down.

getting our presentation out of the way. the guy i was with is a good person. he said he used to be racist. he's one of those people who grew up i guess.

i also bumped into the guy i think is attractive in many ways who is doing education as well but he is further into his degree than i. i was afraid he was gone. i'd miss him. he hasn't got long to go though. he is from chile and his dad was active as a youth in opposing pinochet. how mad is that?!

i also bumped into somebody from my international law course from last term and she said that the muslim students association was active in helping refugees in a charity kind of way by getting them food for iftar and eid which i was glad to hear. imagine eating crap detention centre food after ramadan. yeach.

forgot to add that we had an awesome meeting on malcolm x. it was the type of history lesson i wish i had in highschool and wish i had now. the person behind me shouted in the comments and her shouting refleccted what i was thinking but it hurt. she started off with the refugee situation and labour lefts role in it and then went on to how rich african americans still benifit from racism against african american workers which is why we shouldnt laud condoleza rice, obama, and "f#$%ing oprah" as leaders. not that we did to begin with. the speaker who gave the actual talk was quite good. i think it was his second go.

Malcom X was an interesting person. I am picking my new courses for this term so I'm pleased about that.

today was sunny and mild, and i looked across the valley from my podium near the window (on the side of the house that faces in that direction) , and things seemed OK.

the sun shines more brightly up here i can sense (from my new location (800m above sea level)), and my 3 friends have all agreed with my observation, but i do not think they think about it for long, and i am the one who lives here anyway, and i do not know whether they were identifying with what i said or whether they were just being sycophantic.

there is a definite amplification of my usual perception of sunlight up here and i like it.
that is all

I like the sun too, but I'm using an eye drop now and it stings to be in strong light.
