Now my mom, and my sister are laughing at me.

Day 10

Nothing. Nose still twitches, but no musky odor; must be continued allergies or a nest, where mummy mouse is being a bad parent and leaving her little ones (or perhaps a nest made by a male? Do the males do that?). Nonetheless, vigilance and 90% watch remains in effect. Bigger trap came in the mail, just in case the other was too small (the bigger ones have worked in the past).

I wait.

I also went for a cane toad sweep with muh .22LR and quiet ammo (no way in hell am I using an arrow on one; there goes the arrow in the bin); nothing. The land was...a wasteland with trees. All I heard was the hooting of a powerful owl some hundred yards away. Eerie seeing the land so empty of life. The darkness was encompassing.

The Japanese make some mighty fine and sharp kitchen knives. My mother cuts herself often with them (I keep on warning her, but alas, when you've learnt on useless cheap stuff, those habits end up with cuts).

At least the cuts are clean slices. They close up quickly.

a very good way of getting away with calling someone "mediocre" is to declare yourself to be mediocre and therefore you can only see them as being mediocre no matter how hard you try. "mediocre" is the highest accolade you can award given your limitations.

then when they begrudgingly accept it, they suddenly realize that the series of events that just occurred that led them to accept a label of mediocrity was an elaborate ruse and they have to admit defeat, and therefore truly land in the realm of the mediocre.

Day 10, continued:

I heard scurrying. I went and looked and found markings of the rodent. It never left. It avoided the trap with chocolate and peanut butter, in addition to a water bottle cap full of water in it. This is clearly a smart critter.

I'm using all my might to hold myself back from laying prone with a throw over me and a .22LR rifle now that I know its ingress and egress route. My mother would kill me if I took that shot.

No, I must order more traps. The type that break its back.

I also think I need to wear gloves when handling the traps. I have a suspicion that it can smell my touch on the current traps.

just imagine if there was a regime that published 10,000 "valid" reasons to be put to death, and reason number 10,000 was "that one has failed to correctly recite from memory every one of the preceding 9,999 reasons when spontaneously inspected at any time from now until one's death".
it would be a rather stern ruler who imposed that regime. an interesting character to play and write for except i would have to tone down the outrageousness of it or else it would descend into a farce very quickly.
i am not interested in farces much.

@dillogic - yes, mice are exceptionally good smellers so wear rubber gloves when setting traps.

I want to pour molten chocolate on an eccles cake until it sets and see what it tastes like.
I'm wondering what if would feel like if you went for a walk in wellington boots filled with tadpoles.
I love my trouser press. It would make one hell of a toastie maker, but it might take hours.

my mice are my friends and you may not hurt them without tempting serious implications for yourself.

I'm pretty sure no one is talking about your pets. I knew a pet rat, and he was a fine creature. That's quite a bit different to wild ones causing havoc.

Lots of reading into things that don't concern people around here.

Why did you kill Maddie? She was young and beautiful and now she's got no head.
