I'm all for population control. But I'd settle for people to stop being so selfish when it comes to procreation.

The world health organisation defines a healthy person as someone who is free from disease...a huge chunk of the human race is "NOT" free from disease by this definition. But most of these conditions are rendered benign or managed through alopathic medicine.

One thing the OP has to take into account is that modern medicine ensures that a significant amount of a given population which would die under normal circumstances is able to survive or manage disease or conditions that would otherwise have lead to their early grave. Many males who post on this forum are only alive today because of the availability of vaccinations and modern antibiotics. Young males are significantly weaker then female children in the early years of life.

Most of us now reach our adult life without aquiring or having long term effects from childhood diseases. Polio could leave you physically disabled, Scarlet fever could significantly weaken your cardiovascular system, chicken pox could leave you scared for life etc.

Even relatively "healthy" people are still dependent on modern medicine to sustain life. A lot of people are dependent on this infrastructure to stay alive, but because such conditions are so easily managed to the point they have little impact on day to day life it doesn't really enter the minds of people. Think of how many people in the world have Asthma, a respiratory disease, which is managed by the inhalation of steroids. Overnight without access to those drugs those people would not be able to continue living or would lead a significantly reduced quality of life.

Left to nature a lot of us wouldn't have made it to adulthood.

We as a human race are a self fulfilling prophecy, should it matter if we do or don't spawn?

Would you say that the human desire to "save everyone", as indicated by the advanced progression in medicine, is a bad thing? I think to an extent, it is.

If you think about everyone has something nasty in the family tree. I did know a family who continued to have children after they found that they were carriers for Cystic Fibrosis....all of their three children died before or in their early twenties. Im not sure what the point of them continuing to have children. I think if you are aware of a very serious genetic problem....and there are some nasty ones....you might consider adoption. There are tests for fatal genetic diseases and there are many children who are in dire need of parents.
Regardless, it is up to the adults to decide what they want to do.
