Yeah, I never got that either. It's automatic here unless stated otherwise, which I find quite sad. It's one of the reasons coffins are put in concrete... so the embalmed body doesn't contaminate the ground.
Seems like a lot of work for very silly reasons to me.

That's quite interesting, and one I haven't heard of. There are a few natural methods of burial for those that care about this sort of thing. In the US, cremation is the most widely used alternative to the pressure cooker coffin.
