There's no water anywhere near me. No sea, lake or river of any substance. So the only real places to do anything is the mall - which I don't really like to frequent. Plus I live at altitude so the air is rarefied, and now it's winter - I'm freezing. Crime is another problem, but at least I live in a mostly safe area. Wish there was a place to escape form the hectic life, nearby me, but there really isn't.

The house pricing is so ridiculously high I will probably have to wait for one of my relatives to pass away to be able to afford to live anywhere around here.

It also smells funny

It's also far too polluted and over populated

The forests are sterile and devoid of decent fauna

- No transportation. If I do get a taxi it's costs a bunch of money.

- No sidewalks.

- Only big businesses are close by. There's no such thing as a grocery store or supermarket within a walking distance.

- Redneck idiots with redneck attitudes but I guess you can find this type of person in any area. And these rednecks ain't very friendly.

- No places to go if a tornado should hit.

- The price just to rent a small place in this county is unbelievable.

- Lot's of drugs though many of the feds have cracked down on most of the methhouses that use to be here.

Where I live now:
Litter
LOUD West African women
Bad driving
Burkas
Caribbean gangstas
Desi wannabe gangstas, innit
bad halal takeaways
expensive gentrified places
sometimes the hipsters are annoying
everywhere is full of kids

I do like living in a multicultural area, though - honestly.

Where I used to live/where I grew up:
Scallies/chavs/townies/white trash (I don't know the PC word for them - I probably should be one of them, myself)
the local Irish mafia families
bitchy northern matriarchs who will spread the most horrible gossip about people
people with disabilities getting bullied
Triads
Desi wannabe gangstas, innit
teen pregnancy
rude Hasidic Jews (it used to be a Jewish area but all the Orthodox and less-frum Jews moved out to the suburbs - it's easy to see why)
antisemitism
mutual racism between whites and Desis
junkies leaving needles lying around in the park
winos being drunk and passed out in the street
crazy people (actually that was kind of cool)
Staffordshire bull terriers
dog poo everywhere
everyone smokes
really expensive buses

Generally for my city: humid, polluted, dirty and insane. I've always loved/hated it.

I'm not entirely convinced my neighbor isn't a homicidal maniac.

1. Being located within a country (if a downside isn't specific to Edinburgh in particular I will point it out as such) which has a strong drinking culture. I mean, I drink, but the excessive binge drinking distresses me.

2. Wide gap between the most and least well off in the city. Just because the city is known to be relatively affluent, doesn't mean this isn't the inevitable result.

3. Social stratification, due to 2.

4. Cost of living, due to 2.

5. If you live within the city and your budget's low enough, you might be forced into the more high crime areas to live because of 3 and 4.

6. City centre pedestrian overcrowding.

7. Because many people in the city think their s**t doesn't stink, as shown in the way they walk, this makes 6 a nightmare.

8. The city's location within a perversely politically correct nanny state, the UK.

1. Mosquitoes
2. Swamps everywhere
3. Rednecks
4. Uber-conservative/fundamental Yuppies(mingling with the rednecks)
5. Tourism
6. Murder(Someone gets killed every other week in incidents of gang violence)
7. Heat
8. No snow
9. Very few nerds/geeks were I live. I am nearly incapable of socializing with any other social group.
10. TPC(One of the most prominent Golf Tournaments in the world and it happens to take place right behind my house. The traffic is terrible.
11. Yuppie businessmen telling racial/ethnic jokes over the phone(we have no shortage of this)
12. The kids(most of them are spoiled to the core and buy drugs with the money they're handed. No joke. The times I've overheard them. And seen them. And while smoking Marijuana is not something I consider to be bad, taking PCP and prescription drugs like a lot of these kids do is terrible)
