Actually, for those of us who make ethical decisions based on suffering, possession of a nervous system with which to perceive,
and a brain with which to interpret those perceptions as pain, is the relevant question.

I highly doubt if faced with the choice anyone here would choose to stab a dog over a potato.

Oh I might add there are plenty of obese vegetarians

There's still nothing in fish that can't be obtained elsewhere.

I'm an obese vegan. I know all too-well that stereotypes are bogus, hence my rejection of "All the vegheads I know look jacked up" as an argument for eating meat.

I tend to stay far away from these type of topics in general. However, I will share what I know. Humans by design are omnivores. Most of us have to eat some animal based foods to stay in good health.

There are a few that can live mostly on plant based foods, but have you noticed something - they will eat some animal based product such as milk or butter in moderation. Take a look at the foods of India.

I prefer fish and chicken. Every now and then, I will eat lamb and pork.

I am not ashamed or apologetic of eating animal flesh at all. I am a conscious carnivore. I make sure that any meat I eat comes from humanely raised sources as much as possible. I am all for thinking before you eat.

I am almost vegan aside from I drink and eat dairy.....so, I am a lacto-vegetarian.
DON'T tell me about dairy, because it is the only thing i have left, and if I were to become full-on vegan I'm pretty sure I wouldn't survive (or I would become a slower runner =/).

Because I have a tiny selection of foods that I will eat, and I can't afford to abandon any of them.

Because we're on top of the food chain, it's the natural order of things. Animals eat animals, so shall I.

I just don't care, I find meat tasty.

For the beef, I like it better when it's stunned before killed.

^^ Greetings Psychopompos (I am very sorry if I have spelled your name incorrectly). I believe that the lack of a nervous system is indeed a happy argument and perhaps may be considered as some evidence, yet you appear to to be ignoring this and very suddenly concluding that all individuals suffer equally with no evidence also.

So indeed you are stating that there is no evidence to support that eating animals is worse than eating plants. But also you are not providing any evidence to support that eating plants is the same (in terms of suffering) as eating animal meat. Yet you conclude very strongly that the latter is correct.

In fact, I feel that eating fruits is nice for the plants who create them, since this helps them to disperse their seeds.

I am very sorry if this is horrible of me.

Well I knew someone who once remarked that most of the food we eat from plants is from their reproductive cycle, so when you eat vegetarian it is like eating the aborted baby fetuses of the plant in many cases.

OTOH there are some fruits that require they be eaten and the seeds pooped out in order for them to germinate.

There are PLENTY of vegan runners, just google it.

The point is that animals are sentient (having a nervous system plays a very large part in this, as I am sure you are aware) and therefore can suffer. Plants are not sentient.

I know that there are, but I am also a picky lazy runner who is going to college soon
*picky-limited food choice because the autism and sensory issues
*Lazy-I don't feel like cooking gourmet vegetable entrees everyday
*college soon- I need cheap foods
*runner- I NEED protein (and I can't take vitamins because they make me sick)

So there might be vegan runners and there might even be autistic vegan runners......but I seriously doubt that there are many picky, lazy, going to college soon, autistic, vegan, runners.......seriously....
