Here's another inspirational work:

Dale Wimbrow wrote:
The Guy in the Glass - by Dale Wimbrow (1895-1954), (c) 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.

I first heard this recited by a Humphrey Bogart impersonator at Universal Studios ... awesome!

^^ Thanks Fnord, I've not read that before.

I think these resonate so much with me because they're about the strengths of independence and reliance on self; the certain knowledge that ultimately, I face my life and my death alone.
So unswayed by mistranslated and distorted "instruction manuals" from unknown hands driven by unknown motives, I cast them all aside and require only that peace which self-knowledge will bring.

Like the man said:
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I liked the idea of this thread. And, of course, I'm a 'theist' myself, though I don't like the way it sounds. :)

I say the same.

I myself just happen to be a Catholic and rarely go to the PPR forum because like
what people said already, religious members of Wrong Planet can have a really rough time in the PPR forum.
Maybe it's best the PPR forum be deleted temporaily?

Sometimes I think people, Aspie or not, know I am Catholic just by looking at me
and feel tempted to emotionally/psychologically bitch-slap me just because I am Catholic.

Even other Catholics here don't believe I am Catholic. WTH?

I wish myself to be Jewish.

It's not that different to be Jewish in this case, AA. I know it myself.

I also gave up posting in the PPR forum. I'd say it's impossible to feel "well" in there if you have a religion (whatever it is). As I came to WP for friends, not for heated discussions, I opted no to go to the PPR forum anymore.

Why only temporarily?

Yes, there is. Some sort of lack of respect for some people's opinions. It would be awesome if the discussions were respectful, but unfortunately that's not what happens.

Yeah its a good idea to delete it then the theists can discuss homophobia, abortion and creationism in Random (since these are the only actual "religious" topics that seem to get hostility, despite them being politics masquerading as moral dilemmas)

I tried that test and got this.

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (91%)
3. Nontheist (77%)

I don't go on the ppr forum much. I don't enjoy arguing with people about topics where we both have strong opposite beliefs and neither is going to change.

Indeed. It might work to unite all members of this website. However, the only website that I know prohibits posts for political, religious or sexual nature is the Enya "Unity" fansite.

   Enya!!

I think a lot of the most interesting and intellectually minded members would probably leave or frequent this place much less often if PPR were closed
