And another visit to my local Value Village generated a Drew Bledsoe New England Patriots jersey for $8! Am I good or what? :D

I think some items I get at Value Village tell a story; especially my sports gear. :D

I also like Goodwill; but not as much as Value Village.

I found a pair of Gerber size 2T plastic pants, my mom found a wine rack, a thing to hold bills on the wall, a shelf for the bathroom. I also got a new pair of jeans for work.

well, it will be a bit of a challenge to find things like degaussers for the heads/tape path, test tapes etc. hopefully it was lightly used and kept in a closet or drawer someplace for much of its life. it would be interesting to hear its sound quality [like taping a live concert] using a good stereo one-point mic. hopefully it has 7&1/2 inches per second tape speed.

I saw the most entrancing flamenco inspired black evening gown today but I'd have nowhere to wear it!

I found another op shop tucked away in a lane today too, an Anglican Church one.

Already have a degausser the recording head look like less than twenty hours on it looks new. The mike is long gone but the shop had a spring mounted one from the twenties or thirties as well. Nice score for 22 bucks.

I have always liked to check out thrift stores for vintage electronics, and in the old days (1980s), I could get great deals on 1940s and 50s TV sets for my vintage TV collecting and repairing hobby. Later when eBay came up, and antique TV collecting and restoring got more mainstream, the thrift stores got wise to the values skyrocketing, so I quit finding any good deals. I seldom buy any clothing from thrift stores, but I buy A LOT of it on eBay. I'm fine with used/washed Levi's jeans and some T-shirts if they look like they were hardly used, but socks, shoes, and of course underwear must be new in sealed packaging and not fingered or messed with.

I love thrift stores! Typically I go there looking for old technology to play with: bicycles, sewing machines, tools, lawn mowers, etc. I really like the Habitat For Humanity Restore, as they have more interesting stuff like architectural salvage. I'm not into vintage clothing as I don't want to wear anything that has been on another person's body. Thus, I avoid the clothing sections like the plague.

I like that store too! We have one within 10 miles of here, and I stop in every couple months. With my weird special interests including restoring Cold War air raid sirens, and also vintage cars, and vintage electronics, there's often something there which I can use. I got a 100-amp industrial electrical 3-phase safety cutoff switch for $15 brand-new but no box, which I needed, and would have had to pay $100 or more new. Later I got three 1000-foot spools of #12 cotton-asbestos wire for $25; surplus from the 1930s!! ! You have to pay 50c-$1 per foot to order it from Antique Electronic Supply Co. Come to think, I'll maybe go there today

Thrift stores in Chicago appear to have more interesting donations than other places:

Quote:
A grenade was found Monday morning among donated clothing at a thrift store in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side, but it was later determined to be non-explosive.

A Unique Thrift Store employee was sorting through donated clothing at the business in the 4400 block of West Diversey Avenue when he found the grenade, according to a police spokesman.

The employee notified his manager, who reported the grenade to police, Mirabelli said. The store was evacuated and traffic was cordoned off.

Responding officers contacted the police Bomb and Arson unit, which determined the grenade was “inert” and did not contain any explosive materials, police say.

The "pineapple" grenade, named due to the similar ridges on the surface, was blue with a green top and attached pin.
