"I only think I'm better than the people that I'm better than."

"I died a mineral and became a plant;
I died a plant and rose an animal.
I died an animal and i was [hu]man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?
Yet once more I shall die as man, to soar
with blessed angels; even from angelhood
I must pass on...
When I have sacrificed my angel soul,
I shall become that which no mind conceived."

Someone may have already done this one...
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." --Animal Farm

"What is Communism? A system by which one small group seeks to rule the world." --100 things you should know about Communism in the U.S.A.
That one just makes me laugh.

and yet.. what are we busy about... industry?
I think not.
and what are we industrious about?
Business?

That's another fail

I would suggest that the true busyness of the human race is to nurture our children
That is all

Why do you say that's a fail? It sounds to me that the quote is saying that you need to be busy in the right industry, which is true. How this relates to nurturing children I don't know... :?

"Look at his face. I bet his cornflakes try to crawl out of the bowl." Dylan Moran

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manny: There's a girl.
Bernard: A what? You know I don't approve of you seeing other girls- people. Who is she?
Manny: Roweena, a friend of Anne's. I met her once and was hoping to meet her again.
Bernard: Oh, I see.
[Mockingly]
Bernard: Roweena! Roweeeeena! And what am I supposed to do while you're doing the underpants charleston with this insane, blind tart?
Manny: Why are you getting so angry?
Bernard: I can't help being angry when I'm furious! So, before you go off to raise your bearded freak circus, what's she like?
Manny: She's nice.
Bernard: She's nice, she- dont make me sick into my own scorn. What are her prospects? Does she play the viola? Does she embroider? Is she kind to the servants?
Manny: I don't know. All I know is I like her and there's a good chance that she likes me.
Bernard: [Later] Well, we're going to this party because I'm trying to picture this girl who likes you and all I can see is you in a dress.

Scean from Black Books Staring Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey

Begin the morning by saying to thyself, I shall meet with the busybody, the ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful, envious, unsocial. All these things happen to them by reason of their ignorance of what is good and evil. But I who have seen the nature of the good that it is beautiful, and of the bad that it is ugly, and the nature of him who does wrong, that it is akin to me; not [only] of the same blood or seed, but that it participates in [the same] intelligence and [the same] portion of the divinity, I can neither be injured by any of them, for no one can fix on me what is ugly, nor can I be angry with my kinsman, nor hate him. For we are made for co-operation, like feet, like hands, like eyelids, like the rows of the upper and lower teeth.[A] To act against one another, then, is contrary to nature; and it is acting against one another to be vexed and to turn away.

~ Marcus Aurelius, the most powerful man on Earth in his own time.

For you, as a child at 16, how have you been nurtured to cope with being a 16 year old adult?
Do you feel that you are ready to enter an industry where you can be used properly?
Does being 'used properly' justify your dedication to this employee?
Do you think that being industrious in the right business will allow you to nurture your children?

Favourite quote:

"No matter how hard you try,
you can't close your heart up forever.
And the minute you open it up,
you never know what's going to come in!
But if you don't, and trust me on this one,
then there's no point in being here!"

"First they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win."
I believe it was Eleonor Roosevelt who said that, if i'm not mistaken

I could have sworn it was Sartre who said this, but it turns out it was Enoch Powell.

Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 3, Polonius :

"See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch'd, unfledged comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Bear't that the opposed may beware of thee.
Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;
Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express'd in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the apparel oft proclaims the man,
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are of a most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
