Wasn't Victoria the great-grandmother of Nicolas II? I know he and George V were first cousins and bore a strong resemblance to one another.

I think so. Yes, they look like brothers.

The Bank of England said these would be phased in, there isn't any rush. Also post boxes, soldiers' uniforms etc. Everything will have to be CiiiR now. Not EiiR. Charles Rex, not Elizabeth Regina.

So in the last 6 years we've seen 4 Prime Ministers and 2 monarchs. Jeez Louise 8O

Tsar Nicholas II's wife, Alexandra, was one of Queen Victoria's granddaughters.

I've read studies that say the British are very inbred because we're isolated on our island. It would explain a heck of a lot.

Not really looking forward to Charles III tbh. His mother was a lot warmer.

^^Although Charles III seems to want to change all that. The first thing he did when he got back to London from Balmoral was to jump out of his car and speak to the public. He even let some women kiss him, which is NOT normal for royalty. You aren't supposed to touch them unless they offer their hand first. You're not supposed to speak to them unless they speak first.

Also I noticed he was VERY surprised and touched by all the sympathy and condolences he is getting.

Yes, Hopefully he will grow into the role and prove me wrong.

I hope so. I think being such an old king has done him a favour. People are more like 'awww...' when they see him because he's obviously a bit frail and vulnerable. I saw one photo of him on Saturday looking so tired, grieving and tearful that I got tears in my eyes too.

I know... :( She was always there, like our grandmother.

As in Cornflake's signature:

In times when nothing stood
But worsened, or grew strange,
There was one constant good:
She did not change.

I've always found her to be rather conservative and reserved, characteristic of the "Greatest Generation" who survived the Great Depression and World War II.

She had an all-abiding sense of duty, which people from subsequent generations rarely have---including myself, it must be said.

I hope Charles has that same sense of duty.

I thought the Queen was reserved but quietly kind. She was tough as old boots though, physically and probably mentally. She disapproved of Margaret Thatcher who fainted once when they had some meeting or other.

Charles has always been the sensitive one out of those children, although I think Edward is pretty sensitive too. His dad Philip disapproved of that and rumour has it he bullied Charles when he was young, wanting a 'tougher' son (like lots of dads do). But Anne and Andrew are the tough nuts. Also apparently Anne was Philip's favourite and Andrew was the Queen's favourite. Seems like Charles and Edward had to be second best.

We need more sensitive men in the world though.
