I have a smidgen of Irish in me (I'm mostly Russian, Dutch, German, and English).

And I really enjoy Irish music and Irish culture.

My family comes from County Donegal.

I know somebody who works in Donegal.

It's supposed to be nice there.

As it goes but Bloody windy, cold place - but the scenery is nice. Nice and green.

That's probably why the wind gives me headaches.

My ex-partner's parents were Russian - although, they'd never been there. They came from Harbin, China. There was a little Russian enclave in China and that's where they were from.

My ex was born here but purely Russian. Her parents even sent her to Russian school in Strathfield on weekends.

I'm Third Generation American on my mother's side (Russian). My grandmother came in in 1910, during the Golden Age of Immigration.

I'm about Seventh Generation American on my father's side (Dutch-German-English). My approximately Great-Great-Great-Great-Great grandparent got here around 1840.

My sister was really into genealogy at one stage and it turns out, we are related to Lady Jane Seymour, one of Henry VIII's wives.

Apparently, our family used to be quite well to do but someone drank and gambled it all away - the bastards!

And now I'm living in bloody Padstow. I could have been living in Buckingham Palace!

I wonder what it would be like to know where I came from.

I only know back 3 generations, all my grandparents are dead and my parents didn't know my great grandparents.

I don't know much about it. My sister knows all there is to know though.

Some of our history was burned in the Great Fire of London.

Do you come from a place where there'd be records?

Most places throughout the world keep some record of a person's birth and death (and marriage) and probably have done for some time.

I do know my Grandmother had spirit and determination though. (I think that's where I get that from)

They didn't have a lawn mower back then so she cut the lawn with a pair of scissors.

Probably the same pair she was going to kill my Grandfather with when he came home drunk and she chased him out in the backyard with a pair of scissors. I think she must have been a bit upset with him. :roll:

She locked him in an animal cage once - as a joke and left him in there for a while.

She was a feisty one but Bloody Determined and Headstrong.

That's where my Mum and I got it from.

My sister is more like my Father's side. I look like my Mother's side - and take after them as well.

Nope, no records of where they're from. I've been there and looked, but when you live in a grass hut in SE Asia... They don't know their birthdates and only remember growing up their respective villages. I've taken photographs back to the area and asked village people, but seems as is most of them left during the time of the genocides (Cambodia) or where killed.
