From a very good anime that I just started watching called Vampire Knight

I watched that recently. I have both Vampire Knight and Vampire Knight Guilty on dvd. I didn't finish watching Vampire Knight Guilty yet. I watched some of it online but never finished. I plan to start from the beginning and watch all of it from my dvds soon. I didn't start yet because I usually watch tv and play my mmorpg at the same time which is hard to do if I'm reading subtitles. I like my anime in Japanese with English subtitles.

It's called Substrat 26 II and is by Thomas Ruff.

i do not understand it. it is rather raw. is it a temperature gradient or something?
it looks like an "XOR" color function of some design, but it's design eludes me.

i have played with colorization formulae and applied them to designs i calculated, but mine are more rigid and non fluid.

i have posted this before, but it i think it has a similar colorization function to your picture.

mine is cluttered with mathematical designs which mean nothing much, but your picture seems to be more ethereal.

Apparently it's called "art", but I've also generated similar things here and just called it "nice colours".
On some of the fractal-generating software I've used this sort of output is called a plasma display, I assume because it looks a bit like plasma clouds.
The "art" seems to be just that with some additional image manipulation that could probably be done quite easily with Photoshop.

I think that's basically it, but most of the mathematics involved eludes me...
Maybe this will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_effect
(there's a link at the bottom to "Plasma fractal" which is more directly related to what you're doing)

There's something about the basic fractal pattern which I find attractive - like fern fronds or Paisley patterned cloth, but I don't think I'd call yours "cluttered": it seems more symmetrical than cluttered to me and I like the fine detail very much.
If the picture I posted seems more ethereal I suppose that's because it's more like clouds or smoke, with a much less obvious shape or patterning than yours.

Cool, someone else who has seen it! I haven't bought any anime DVDs in awhile, though I might buy Vampire Knight if I really like it. I understand how difficult it is to find time to watch TV and movies when you have a routine going. It depends on each individual anime whether I prefer the original Japanese version or the English dub. I really wish that Viz would put up the dubbed episodes of Vampire Knight so that I could judge for myself which version I prefer.
