Thanks for posting. This sounds like a studio cut. The genius of Louis Prima is when he is live and on the edge, improvising. Especially when he is riffing off of Keely Smith!

I recognized one of the two from a drama on Masterpiece Theater. I had no idea he did this type of comedy!

I have been meaning to explore Charles Mingus. Now I see why his composition skills are so highly regarded.

i really love Mingus' approach to playing, he used to say to those who played & improvised solos under his band-leadership "don't just play your licks/chops. get into yourself" a sort of 'play from the heart'.. a beautiful way. & he often shouts out when he gets going.. :) a fine artist, to be sure

QI Fact of the Day

The 3rd Infantry Regiment of the French Foreign Legion is stationed in the town of Kourou, French Guiana. Ironically, its base is in the Forget neighbourhood.

Fun fact: Stephen Fry, my and Fudo's personal savior, was the voice of the Cheshire Cat in last year's Alice in Wonderland movie. And Alan Rickman, perhaps best known as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies, does the voice of Absolem, the Blue Caterpillar. ;)

Also, @Fudo: I recently watched Hot Fuzz, the second movie with the best acting pair in history, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (their first being Shaun of the Dead, one of my favorite movies of all time), and Bill Bailey, the very same from QI, plays a character in it. :o I hadn't seen that movie in a couple years, and back then I had no idea who he was, and was positively delighted to recognize him, since he's one of my favorite panel members on the show. 8)

never seen alice in wonderland ofr the harry potter films, but thankyou for sharing.
methinks, Alan Rickman is best known as Hans gruber or the sheriff of nottingham, no? ;)
got hot fuzz & shaun of the dead.. somewhere lol
not sure what british tv you're familiar with so i'll mention buzzcocks & spaced.
never mind the buzzcocks featured regulars bill bailey & phi jupitus for many years & was hosted by the hilarious mark lamarr. it was a music comedy quiz thing.
spaced was a sitcom starring simon pegg & nick frost amongst others. apologies if you know all this already, just figured it'd be quite interesting :)
also, here's 90 mins of bill bailey being a very fun man on stage ;)
