Do you want to know what REALLY impressed me?! It was that pipe organ setup you posted before.

My grandfather used to bore us to tears with his Casio organ but that was something different!

One of the "cheap" katanas arrived.

Seems ok. 2 pins in the wood handle, which is the main thing to look for IMO. Carbon steel, which is nice, but stainless like what you used to find in the old cheap ones was fine too; one bends and one breaks when they hit something equally hard, too hard (meaning, you have a ruined sword either way; unlike movies, you aren't meant to hit the opponent's sword at all, or anything hard). Carbon is easier to sharpen, which is good. Stainless doesn't need to be oiled, though.

But overall, it's the handle you look at; wood and 2 pins with a long tang. 1 pin on a short tang made of something other than hardwood can break when hitting softer stuff, like say, wood that's too thick.

It's white. Grip wrap and sheathe.

You'd be surprised what you can buy off eBay Dillogic.

Years ago, I bought a Katana that had been made the original way, carbon steel folded hundreds of times. Modern day stuff (not authentic old stuff or rubbishy WWII rushed stuff).

They stuck this baby on eBay for $5 expecting it to go up in price but it didn't.

It was RAZOR sharp!

I gave it away to a good friend of mine. God, I regret that!

I got one of them for $30, the other for $50. Both go for $200+ from online retailers. Supposedly hand forged and fitted. "Musashi" being the label. Seems like a cheaper but reasonable substitute for the Hanwei stuff if you went retail, which used to be decently priced new for what you got (10 years ago or so), but not anymore.

So, I guess I did reasonably well.

I had one functional sword from way back, but I don't like doing various Iaido kata with it. Which is why I bought 1 cheap one since my Iaido interest picked up again (the other was just a silly bid that I so happened to win. Yay). I think I might put the other one I "won" on a sword stand somewhere in the house.

Was it you that I remember saying, your Dad bought you a $2000 sword?

Are you in NSW, Sydney area? For memory, you are. I'd love to see that sword some time. I've been into metallurgy/swordsmithing since my early teens (early high school) although I never actually considered it as a Special Interest but in hindsight??? Not with the gusto as my other Special Interests like Astronomy/rocketry but it was certainly up there! I've created a few decent blades in my time!

It took me less than 10 years to be Sid again but in a TV way instead of an animated way. This Sid is from then 60s, though so I'm not straying too far from the script this time. I'm going to celebrate this. I don't care what my mum thinks any more. I'l give myself the entire month of April to celebrate my Schultzness if I need to. My mum needs to be alone for those 4 weeks to simmer down.

Our cat loses his collar constantly. There's probably hundreds of old lost collars in our garden. I remember once when either my mum or my grandma (I think it was my grandma, who originally bought it for her cat) bought a pink collar, and when Lester had lost a collar, the pink one was the only one we had left over, so he had to wear a girly pink collar for a while

The Monkees were about rebellion, not music. 8)

I'm feeling quite Doctor-ish today. It's probably because Season 10 doesn't come out until next year. Are there any Doctor Who fans here? We could start a club or something.
