QI Fact of the Day

On the night that Alexander the Great was born, a man from Ephesus called Eratostratus, or Herostratus, or Erostratus, burned down of the Temple of Diana - one of the Seven Wonders of the World - so that no one would ever forget his name.

QI Quote of the Day

got hot fuzz & shaun of the dead.. somewhere lol
not sure what british tv you're familiar with so i'll mention buzzcocks & spaced.
never mind the buzzcocks featured regulars bill bailey & phi jupitus for many years & was hosted by the hilarious mark lamarr. it was a music comedy quiz thing.
spaced was a sitcom starring simon pegg & nick frost amongst others. apologies if you know all this already, just figured it'd be quite interesting :)
also, here's 90 mins of bill bailey being a very fun man on stage ;)

Well, best known in my country. :P

I've heard of Nevermind the Buzzcocks, and seen a few clips of it, but haven't seen much. I'd love to watch it though. I've also heard of Spaced, and they have all the episodes on Hulu, and I keep meaning to try watching it.

Phill Jupitus mentions Buzzcocks on QI a lot.

Also, Bill Bailey was the of the falling sperm whale above Magrathea in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, and Stephen Fry was the narrator. 8)

He failed then, because I've never heard of him.

QI Fact of the Day

The nine blue and white stripes of the Greek flag stand for the nine syllables of the slogan of the war of independence from Turkey, Eleutheria i Thanatos ('Freedom or Death').

QI Quote of the Day

"Freedom is when one hears the bell at seven o'clock in the morning and knows it is the milkman and not the Gestapo."

quite an 'old school' greek approach, but then it's probably no fun at all being subjugated by the turks..
you're most welcome.
also, a greek army division, the Greek First Army Corps still carries the motto 'Molõn labe', meaning 'come and take them'.. as uttered by King Leonidas I of Sparta.

not so sure the elves got it right today, but the quote is fun..

QI Fact of the Day

A bullet fired straight up in the air loses about 90% of its speed on the way back down, giving it the energy of a brick dropped from a height of about four feet.

QI Quote of the Day

"In our school you were searched for guns and knives on the way in and if you didn't have any, they gave you some."

Great punchline!

Another might have been: "What do I do for a living? I am a psychologist. Tell me: what are you overcompensating for? Not as funny, but...

There was a thread here on WP about having to answer that question in those situations. I would prefer: "What do you like to do?"

sadly, most people don't seem to do what they'd like very often.. or they do it too often. lol

QI Fact of the Day

The first armoured cars (commissioned by Winston Churchill in WWI) were Rolls Royces fitted with three and a half tons of armour plate and a machine gun.

These days they leave off the machine gun and call them SUV's.

Personally, I'd rather watch a foot race than an arms race.
