if ever i was told i had early onset alzheimers disease, then i would write every witty thought i could think of so when the day came that my memory went, i would be able to read my book every day with a freshness of entertainment.

When I used to go for a moonlight bike ride I would get so distracted by the stars I kept running off the road.

i saw a show last night called "mega moves" where they were trying to dismantle a big old jet, and they had to get the wings off it, and there were (apart from the main bolts) 400 small screws to unscrew.
anyway the old plane was about 60 years old, and the small screws proved very hard to remove.
they had just the single slot for a standard screwdriver (not philips head).

so it was a professional team and they got a pneumatic screwdriver drill thing to unwind the screws, but they found that they did not have the muscular power to press the screwdriver head against the screw hard enough for it to grip.
the screwdriver head just skipped over the slots and started to grind them down, so they had to stop trying to take the screws out.

they instead did a lot of damage by just drilling them out with a bigger bit than the screw or the hole it was in.
they just ground the metal away.


well i wondered how one could design a screwdriver contraption that pulled the screwdriver head into the slot with a force that was much greater than human muscular capacity to force it down.

no. the surface around the screws was aluminium which is non ferrous and not magnetic.

suction cup vacuum plug?

no, there are may creases in things that would prevent a sufficient vacuum being obtainable inside the cup.

like screws in old wooden planks, and porous materials.

what to do hey? think of a combination of the answers to both of those conundrums and design how to go about it.

with porosity, the answer would be to fill in the gaps
with non ferrous materials, the answer ........ hmmmmm.

with plane wings, the suction cup idea would work well, but to design a new screwdriver that forces a downward pressure on a screw (as well as a twisting pressure) that is not achievable by a human would make lot's and lots of money.

maybe the answer is to consider the screw expendable, (so long as one does not damage the hole it is removed from) and design a screw driver that drills a tiny hole into the centre of the screw and....and then what???

and then clasps onto the screw from a little tunnel inside the screw thus providing much more surface area for friction in order for the screwdriver to twist the screw out of the hole.

The cheap Chinese Spyderco Civilian finally came in da mail [from China]; I'd rather outlay $15 than $300 to see if I like it or not (I'm getting close to acquiring 300 buckaroos over the past 2 months).

It's not all that bad; fit and finish seem perfectly adequate. It's all about as I expect. They copied the VG-10 steel label, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to be that. It's probably some Chinese variant of 440C, which isn't bad, but it's not VG-10 IMO.

I'm not sold on it being a good self-defense weapon simply because you can't stab with it; it could do some nasty slices, but they won't be incapacitating. It'd work against the uninitiated that jump you in the street for a robbery, but I don't see a rapist or murderer being deterred by being opened up. Neck would be the only guarantee for a quick death if you swung it for a good slice, which would be very hard to pull off on a moving and fighting target.

I'd rather a folder that can stab and slice.

I don't think I'll go for the real deal. Perhaps the smaller Matriarch which is about 1/3 the price of the Civilian, but is pretty much the same; just a little shorter.

An Endura (which can stab and slice) would be a better weapon IMO, and it's a lot cheaper.

An Endura + the Matriarch would be a better outlay than a single Civilian.

You see, if a kid is outside, and you can hear him playing, you're also going to be able to hear a car idling ~80 meters away, the same with a door closing on the car, not to mention actual acceleration (no matter how slowly).

That's why the "official" story makes little sense to me unless a person snatched and grabbed and then ran for quite some distance before hopping into a car (which could be why the dogs couldn't track a scent; he was being carried). This is with the two suspect cars which weren't far away being a part of the official story.

That's the only type of snatch and grab that makes sense IF the family weren't lying about hearing the kid playing outside (hear the kid = hear a car).

If this is the case, then it would have been most likely targeted and not random (random is always a chance, but you organize these things based on likelihood; if random and smart, the chance of it being solved is pretty much 0 without someone talking).

Crap! I'm so sick of school! I still have 3 months left. It's been going for a little over 3 weeks and I'm not exaggerating when I say I literally am on the couch every waking second except on weekends when I go to work. My butt is freaking numb. Then one of my professors that I sent an email to thought that my email had a "tone". What the heck does that mean?! She thought I was upset and I WAS UPSET because two other students didn't do their homework like they were supposed to and the class was depending on them so we could do our part. My whole schedule was thrown off. You're damn right I have a tone! When my grade depends on someone else and they leave me hanging not knowing what I have to do to correct the situation, I'm going to have a "tone"! I don't think those patho professors understand that they are giving way too much homework. I have to study for a test now that is due to be taken by the end of the day and I haven't even started - I'm too busy doing papers and reports! Screw this crap. Pretty soon I'll have to start adding to my calendar times to go to the f'n bathroom!

I had a question for you actually, what filesystem is best on Linux or Unix when dealing with large files?

I am creating a backup and everything is going to be a compressed file, every file will at least be a GB. Its an encrypted 3 TB hard drive with dm-crypt. Is ext4 ok or should I go with another one?

I love Windows 3.1 games.
