I used to use ZFS under Solaris. It was amazing.

They made this massive storage array out of an 8 port USB hub and plugged all of these flashing memory sticks into it. As they plugged each one in, you could see the size of the ZFS stripe increasing and it was mirrored. Then, they took a hammer and smashed a couple of the USB drives. Stripe size obviously went down but all the data was safe. They then plugged in 2 new memsticks in and it went back up in size ON THE FLY. Like magic.

To a car nearby? Possible, though I still think the parent should have heard it if it was within around ~100 meters, especially if she could hear him play in the yard (this is if her story is correct; I have my doubts). Further out on the road/gutter and the chance of being spotted is just too great IMO (you can always get lucky, of course).

Further away? Possible. You can run pretty far in 15 minutes through bush with a small kid, and if the parent was wrong about the time frame, the distance traveled could have been enough so that the getaway would have been clean. I'd say he/she went bush if a car wasn't nearby as that removes the chance of being spotted, and the bush was pretty much across the road from the house.

If he was carried the entire way, that will account for no real scent for the dogs.

Gonna go mushroom hunting tomorrow. Pictures that is. I don't take them, as it's a source of food for the critters.

I keep a catalogue of the types I find in da woods.

That is so cool! I have thought about doing the same thing, and also with plants and insects and maybe birds. But so far I haven't gotten in to it.

I think so too.

It's pretty fun. You get that whole, hunting feeling of finding something that you most likely wouldn't find if you were just stumbling around. Plus, it's always good to be outdoors and experiencing nature IMO.

I get pictures of birds and the odd plant I find interesting for my mother; she's a fan of those.

More radiation from x-rays today. That is now a total of 5 CT scans and around 200+ x-rays and a couple full body scans with radioactive dyes in my life so far. I definitely see cancer in my future if I don't end up killing myself before then.
