I know z3n, when meeting anyone new this is the process you have to go through. Doesn't make it any either though, no matter how much practice I get. That's true unfortunately, even if you do meet people you like, the group will only get together on occasion opposed to it being a regular thing, what sort of group was it anyway? I discovered there is an autism group on there that's near me but I'm not sure if I would go. I tend to shower later on, besides I'm rarely up in the morning!

I would probably feel the same Moon. When I was younger and had different friends, more often that not I would get fed up with them if I had to see them too regularly. But I think that is something all people experience, not just us autistics. Although, I'd like to see them more often than 6 months! But that's just me. Anytime that I would go out with friends though, I would insist on there being a time and place in advance. There's nothing more irritating than being in the middle of doing something and have someone just come to your door.

There's nothing to stop people hanging out outside the groups of course, but it's difficult to find people to do that with since you don't see them often enough. I joined groups for people in their 20s, movies, eating out and geeks. Wasn't too impressed with the geek group, as there weren't a lot of people there and no-one ended up playing games in the arcade even though we were there. I think a lot of people there like anime and stuff too, which I'm not interested in. Most recently, I joined LondonR, a group for users of the R programming language (for statistics). However, I dunno if I'll be able to go to their meetings, as they happen in the week and it'd be difficult to leave work early enough to get there. Sigh. I'll probably go back to bed soon.

Wow, I can't stay in bed that late!

I wasn't in school since early 2009, and went to sixth form last year - survived until the first day of March this year before it got too much for me.
I sorta had friends there, but no close ones at all. I've nobody in the local area, but there's a friend or two I see at the youth club every week. Never see them outside of youth club because they live 10-20 miles away.

You're not rambling, Moon! You're lucky you're comfortable being by yourself. For me, I want to have people nearby :(. Yeah, I have friends online and I like that, but it's not quite the same as having someone near you can go and do stuff with :(.

Oh i see, i did go through my phases of feeling super lonely by myself though :o But the source of that was feeling depressed and because of a large number of things that happened over the years, so it wasn't exactly feeling lonely on its own, i think my meds also help me to think about what is good for me, it stops my mind from being a hurricane :) And yeah i'm just way too uncomfortable being around people i guess, which is something i had to accept xD I do want a girlfriend one day though, and hopefully i'll be able to overcome my physical contact issues with her atleast, because i can't even shake hands without freaking out :o

And just like Ten i'm not at school either, since uhm well the last school was bakery school and that was around 2009 too, i plan on following college classes one day though on specific subjects, and right now when things get finalized i will get more help from a mental health institute :) They also do house visits, which is great since its 50 minutes by bicycle xD I do home studies though,

And sorry i'm rambling a lot today, we're all sharing a lot today aren't we :o Which is good if you ask me!

Ah, I never really felt uncomfortable around people, just I've never really fit in. That was all the way through school and stuff. Even friends I do have from my PhD days I'm not even sure particularly care about me, lol. They don't tend to try and keep in touch; I'm always the one who has to email them and ask how they are and when they're free for me to visit :(. Gosh, it must be hard feeling that you can't even shake hands and stuff :(.

Yeah, I guess if you're interested in learning stuff then distance learning is the way to go. Personally I'd not like that, as I don't like being stuck indoors, so I'd prefer to have to go somewhere to get learning done!

You're not rambling! Do you know of the town Wijk aan Zee, Moon?

Oh its fine for me since i can't attend school or have a job :o And i never get stuck indoors because i go out a lot :) But i understand what you mean, if things were different i would like to be able to go and learn somewhere else, i'm planning on practicing to read at the library though which is huge for me, but i like a challenge, for me atleast :) Depends on which one you mean, i do know Katwijk aan Zee, but i think we have a lot of places with names similar to that, but i never heard of just Wijk aan Zee :o What makes you ask that though :)?

Oh and i always keep in touch with my friends, and i'm mostly the first to make contact, because all my friends are usually busy but i do know that they appreciate it and like it when i send them a message because they always reply when they can :o I think that if you feel unsure if they care then you could pay attention to how they reply etc, i always get certain vibes from how a message was replied to, not sure how though, unless i get insecure then i just think all kinds of stuff, and sometimes its hard not to be able to touch others, but since it freaks me out so much and disturbs me so much, i lack the need to really attempt it x_x But i do realize that a relationship doesn't exist out of safe space between each other xD

Anyway if it helps you can try to check how they respond to you when you send a message :o And what do you mean with never really fitting in :x? You seem like a very social person here if you ask me!

I suppose you could start small in the library - like reading for a short amount of time and then increasing it as you feel more comfortable. Is the library quite close by then? Wijk aan Zee is a coastal town, apparently in Beverwijk. They have a prestigious chess tournament there every year. Does it bother you when people refer to the Netherlands as Holland?

I'm no good at "reading between the lines", which I guess is what you're referring to! However, even if I hint at being unhappy and want someone to ask about it, they tend to just ignore those bits. I did just send someone an email about today and stuff, though, so we'll see! I suppose with touching people, you could do the same as with the library if you wanted to try and get used to it!

I'm just not like anyone else (in the real world!) really. Everyone seems to just have lives and know and be able to do things that I can't. I'm always feeling excluded in conversations as I don't generally know what people are on about. This happens a lot at work, because everyone there is quite a bit older than me and many of them have kids, are married, etc. I'm not particularly sociable; I'm very introverted. It's easier to talk on here than it is in real life, heh.
