What house is it, then?

Glider, that's an awesome HO scale house. Do some misunderstood witches live here, or perhaps an eccentric old lady the town assumes is a witch? I am imagining a beautifully overgrown rose garden and a long oak lined drive. In a purely fantastical story the house would attract unusual weather events.

Looks more like an old business, like an inn or hotel rather than an old house. Although it could have become a house later on in its life.

The first house makes me feel paranoid, because it is sitting very close to the sidewalk and street.

The scale house looks like it's one more missed paint job away from the cupola falling in. But it would be nice to have a victorian/empire style house.

No, but there is a house in my story that a witch lives in. The story is a horror/fantasy. The home is lived in by an eccentric man that has connections with an alien race that lives underground. In the story, the house sits on a hilly region overlooking a large lake. The main character of this segment of the novel is captured and imprisoned in the house because of having learned too much about the alien race's great secret. Now, it will take all of the main character's strength to survive the ordeal he must face in the tower of the house.

I wish I could find a picture of this old house on the hill a little bit outside our neighborhood.

It got torn down a couple of years ago but it was a nice mix of creepy and isolated.

It's been a long time since I added a house to this thread. It was a fun thread. So here it goes again.

What emotions does this house cause you? Later, I will disclose the house.

Hm it's on multiple levels. I first looked at the trees instead of the house and they remind me of summer and that's a whole other chain of emotions.
The house looks nice, but the upper part is causing anxiety for some reason (might just be it's not matching and the curtains are drawn) and it looks very empty. I don't like how it has two other buildings so close pressing in on it, it's almost claustrophobic.

Also WOW at the HO scale house you posted earlier!

Very boxed in on either side. Maybe someone connected with the arts or music grew up here and could not wait to break free from it. (May have been brought up by a single mother after the father walked out?) It looks like a small house somewhere in a large city in an old established neighbourhood (old street trees in foreground).

Just my initial impressions...

It reminds me of a dwelling you would find in the middle class section of any city in the Northeastern United States.

It looks haunted to me. No sign of life in there.

My guess is the photo describes how we feel about our inner life or something like that.

The section to the left is a bit crooked on one side. The top part should be smaller and pointier, looks like it would be too heavy for what is underneath it.

I admire that you built a scale model to accompany your writing though.

Hi Popsicle---the HO scale house picture I posted suffers from photographic distortion. It's actually very straight. It was built by Howard Zane, one of the foremost custom model builders in the world. He has built many structures in what he calls an Appalachian style common in West Virginia and neighboring areas. The style exhibited in this Appalachian house touches on the Second Empire Victorian style of the latter 1800s---many of which featured very heavy looking roofs and towers. There are many similar looking houses in this part of the country. Many of Howard Zane's models are in museums. I have been fortunate to acquire two of them.

As for my latest house posting---it is the former Ed Becker residence in Chicago. The Beckers lived there around 1970 to 1971. It became famous in the news as a haunted house. I believe it was NBC news that visited the house and did a special show from the house in 1971. To learn all the details about it, you can google it to learn more. Though the Beckers paid $16,500 for it in 1970, they sold it for $10. It recently was on the real estate market for around $280,000. It is a sort of pre-Amityville Horror type house.

Am I supposed to feel something whilst looking at that house. I don't quite get it.

Hi Pokerface---I began this thread in 2010. It was to see what kind of feelings certain houses gave to observers. You can look back to earlier posts to see how people responded. If you don't get any feelings from the houses---then you don't get any feelings. That's fine. But many of us do get feelings/emotions from houses.
