Well 12 hrs (or however long... certianly under 24) isn't nearly enough time to guage response from that... and statistically, you're going to get 5-10% or so who get pissed off at you for the note (even though it's not spam because you're sending it personally to people who seem like they might be interested). It's only spam if it's automated -- that's what the a in spam stands for. It originally was "SP-ontaneous A-utomated M-ail". And the more recent synonyms are Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE) and Unsolicited Bulk Email (UBE) either of which imply something you're not doing. heh... but anyway ... regardless, you're going to have about 10% of folks pissed off and usually similar amounts of people looking at the content to see if they're actually interested. But you're not going to get all the responses right away -- it'll take a few days for everyone to visit the site and even then some folks may not notice they have a PM because of the way PHPBB works, they may just not notice the flag at the top of the page.

Wow that looks great, if the land is really that cheap then building on it shouldnt cost too much there either.
Does anyone else agree that this is the perfect spot?

We will make an aqueduct to bring water from the nearest water source

Actually I like the idea of an apartment complex much better. Its cheap, and its a great experience all together. I remember I had a lot of fun living in an apartment when I was in Washington state. It was a beautiful area but a very troubled town and I dont think Ill ever want to live there again... But Im still all for the apartment idea. At first I didnt realise how undeveloped land would be such a problem, but now I know!

If you were going to get an apartment complex I recommend get it in northern California or Oregon being all the water is there. Now assuming that oil becomes ecomiclay unavailable cause of oil peak places like la are going to dehydrate cause of lack of water. So ya build in northern California or Oregon were there alot of water and not that many people. To those who don’t know what peek oil is or wish to learn more I highly recommend you watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3uvzcY2Xug

Hey,
I live in Southern Oregon about 16 miles from the Northern California Border. You will have to go further up the coast if you want the famous rains of the Pacific Northwest. Global warming has changed this area from a rain forest to a dry savannah. .. with only seasonal rains and less and less each year.

that is why they call it GLOBAL warming, Cultus!

with global warming it rains more globally but but it rains allot more in places and rains a lot less in other so what you get is areas that are constantly flooded from rain and places with no rain

I think we should make our own town. which means instead of every one living on a commune we will have to produce farms for food as well as some local industry for what ever we may need and try to be as self sufficient as possible but also to rely on other naboring towns for things we our selfs cant produce. At the same time set up a form of government. Were we will have a mayor and a town council. -a rublic were we vote for our leader and reprsentives- at the begging we will of course only be a small rural town with farming being our only source of income, and most of the crops we would eat. But over time it will grow. and who knows what the future holds.

There's a town here in Northern California called 'Bridgeville' that the current owner keeps on trying to sell on ebay. Seriously.
google map to Bridgeville

We still get a decent amount of rain here, although our summers are definitely getting dryer; Bridgeville is right on the river, so water shouldn't be a problem. There should be some salmon in the river, although populations have been down the last couple of decades and salmon alone wouldn't be enough to feed an entire town. People could get hunting and fishing permits and have ample public land to use them on, as well.

Am I in? Well, it depends on a lot. I don't have a lot of spare cash (read: almost none), but I have some emergency medical skills and am good with horses and other animals, and have some experience fishing. I can't stand hot weather, though, so places where the summer temperatures get above 80 degrees or so would put me out of the running.

I'm also leery of being taken in; I can be quite gullible at times, and in this case I would want some sort of formal organization and transparent accounting for protection from that sort of thing.

I would consider that a basic requirement - i.e. previously mentioned corp + trust with associated bylaws. And actually I think the bones analogy was pretty good and I think she's right, we need to create a plan for decision making early on. I know there are books on the subject of consensus decision making (which I believe is the popular term and/or mode for new IC's these days) so while I haven't read any of them myself, it might be good to start there with someone(s) who had read them or who's willing to take the time to read through some of them and distill it for the group for us to discuss. Because the way we make decisions as a group, whether it's formalized or whether it's an informal group dynamic, will be the essence of how we live and I think most of us will be happier with an at least semi-formalized plan for ensuring that everyone's concerns are heard and it doesn't evolve into a de facto dictatorship as sometimes happens (intentionally or not) when there's not a plan.
