That's a great name for a cat.

Thanks!

It's taken 2.5 months to settle on it because he came to us without notice and it had to work with my synaesthesia plus work with all my other witch-themed cat names.

It's hard to get boy witch names and we didn't want Edgar or Poe.

Withens and Gravey are Brontë references.
Gravey means pertaining to graves, or from graves.

Mac is to go with Macbeth and to be Scottish like my partner.

Middlemarch is a name I've wanted all my life for a cat.
It's a book named for a place.

He looks kind of like the middle of March too.
Stormy and dark and snowy.

We'd tried to get another cat who was actually born on Ides of March.
That would have been even way cooler.

He was born on Charlotte Brontë's birthday, however!

We mostly call him March or Graves.

Cats so far:

Mademoiselle Ouiji Spell - Named for Ouija boards
Willow the Wisp - Named for the willow branches used to make witches' brooms
Hester Jane - For Hester Jonas executed in the Salem witch trials
Also for Hester Prynne who was hung (The Scarlet Letter)

Macbeth, the Red King - The three girls are Macbeth's three witches from the play

Adding another boy was no easy feat
I wanted a Macduff but my daughter said no

Our next girl is Zillah Augusta Crone

Then, Hagreth.

There's also Brunhilde (Hilda) and WitchHazel (Hazel)
I like H's

Lord help me.

*Withens is also a reference to willow branches, called withies.

I love this thread and I've finally figured out how to post pictures, so here they are.

For comparison

Those aren't their actual names, but I wish they were.

Here's Caesar again (with Missy trying to get into the picture too). He lost 22 pounds so now he's halfway towards his ideal weight. I have pictures in this thread showing how fat he's gotten since he was adopted.
